| Judas Priest - 013
I'm very happy to confirm earlier reports. The Priest delivered the goods last night. And Halford sounded so good I almost couldn't believe it. If there's anyone among the original members who's slowing down, it's Glenn Tipton, who most of the time seemed content to let Faulkner's guitar steal the spotlight. He had visible trouble keeping up with his Painkiller solo, especially. But the man is 68, so I'm not really complaining. Though it was obviously not perfect, the band put on a terrific show. | | 1 | | Black Sabbath Paranoid
War Pigs: I absolutely loved it when they used this as intro. | | 2 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls
Battle Cry: A second, 'real' intro, which I must say worked very nicely right after the nod to Sabbath. | | 3 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls
Dragonaut: I avoided looking up what they were playing this tour so I would be unspoiled, but this as the first song of the evening was a certainty. Though hardly a classic or destined to become one, it did set the right mood straight away. | | 4 | | Judas Priest British Steel
Metal Gods | | 5 | | Judas Priest Point of Entry
Desert Plains | | 6 | | Judas Priest Sad Wings of Destiny
Victim of Changes: Their modern rendition favors an increased speed and heaviness over the atmosphere and slow build of the original, but it was here that Halford first convinced me that he still very much has it. His screams were something to behold, truly. | | 7 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls
Halls of Valhalla: one of the better songs on the new album, and a predictable, but satisfying inclusion. | | 8 | | Judas Priest British Steel
The Rage: The first of two surprises, setlist-wise. | | 9 | | Judas Priest Turbo
Turbo Lover | | 10 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls
Redeemer of Souls: As predictable as the other two. But as I expected, the new songs sounded far better live, and were no task to sit through. | | 11 | | Judas Priest Stained Class
Beyond the Realms of Death: I had faith they would still play this beauty, and thankfully it wasn't misplaced. | | 12 | | Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
Screaming for Vengeance: Didn't expect this one either. Nicely done. | | 13 | | Judas Priest British Steel
Breaking the Law: At this point, we of course came to the truly obligatory portion of songs in Priest's catalogue. | | 14 | | Judas Priest Killing Machine
Hell Bent for Leather: Enter the motorbike. | | 15 | | Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
The Hellion | | 16 | | Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
Electric Eye | | 17 | | Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
You've Got Another Thing Comin' | | 18 | | Judas Priest Painkiller
Painkiller: still can't stop it. | | 19 | | Judas Priest British Steel
Living After Midnight | | 20 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls

11.18.15 | Oh yes, they were great. But Halford really exceeded my expectations. He may not be quite so mobile anymore, but that voice seemed to be able to shatter the room during some moments. Wow. | romulanrancor
11.18.15 | Glad to hear you had a good time man, I'm dying to see them live.
They covered War Pigs? | Titan
11.18.15 | Desert Plains.....sweet! | RunOfTheMill
11.18.15 | Not a cover, from, they played it over the PA system before the show, but they dim the lights and everyone sings together.
The sound of 2000 metalheads yelling "OH LORD YEAHHHH" is something to behold. | RunOfTheMill
11.18.15 | But yeah, they ruled hard when I saw them last year, glad you enjoyed Nag. Great setlist too | Jethro42
11.18.15 | 16 and 17 are the only Priest songs that I know very well. I might change it. Nice that you got a good time, Nag. | Nagrarok
11.18.15 | Listen to Victim of Changes and Beyond the Realms of Death Jethro, they're my top 2. The former is probably their most proggish song ;) | Jethro42
11.18.15 | In effect, Nag. Save for its screamings and its heaviness, Victim of Changes could be a good old Wishbone Ash song, and it's as good as Black Sabbath if not better :) As for Beyond the Realms of Death, it's a great song, but have you noticed the riff is pretty much the same as Bad Company's ''Feel Like Making Love'' ? | tempest--
11.18.15 | wow what the hell Jethro!
Pretty decent setlist you got there, a few surprises. I can't believe how good the band is sounding at their age. | Jethro42
11.18.15 | What's that, tempest | tempest--
11.18.15 | just that you're not big on Priest. I thought for sure that you would love em. | Jethro42
11.18.15 | Yeah it's a shame. Probably I haven't heard the good songs in the first place. There's a thing that turned me off from the start, it's the kind of screaming the singer got with that hesitant vibrato. Maybe it's just me... | JoeMcSatanBalls
11.18.15 | I've seen them twice the past year and a half. Halford still sounds so good. | romulanrancor
11.19.15 | "Not a cover, from, they played it over the PA system before the show, but they dim the lights and everyone sings together.

Damn, that sounds awesome | TheMagicalBlender
11.19.15 | I'm pissed they didn't play The Ripper, Exciter, A Touch of Evil ( | TheNotrap
11.19.15 | Sounds like it was a good show Nag. As you said, Glenn is no longer a young man... but it's great that he still has the strength to be on stage after so many years and so many gigs.
I think I've never seen The Rage live, it was indeed a good surprise. | Nagrarok
11.19.15 | 'As for Beyond the Realms of Death, it's a great song, but have you noticed the riff is pretty much the same as Bad Company's ''Feel Like Making Love''?'
Damn, you always hear these things Jethro! I'm thinking either it's a coincidence (these things DO happen, after all) or they ripped it off subconsciously.
'Damn, that sounds awesome'
It really is.
'I'm pissed they didn't play The Ripper, Exciter, A Touch of Evil ('
All great songs. Wouldn't have minded having one of them in place of, say, Turbo Lover.
'but it's great that he still has the strength to be on stage after so many years and so many gigs'
My thoughts exactly. | RunOfTheMill
11.19.15 | Turbo Lover's a great song, really fun to sing along to when played live | Nagrarok
11.19.15 | It's not too bad, but it wasn't exactly the highlight of the evening either. | Sevengill
11.19.15 | Dude Turbo Lover ruled when I saw them at Mohegan Sun last year. Love Bites was my favorite though. Defenders for the win. | Jethro42
11.19.15 | ''Damn, you always hear these things Jethro! I'm thinking either it's a coincidence (these things DO happen, after all) or they ripped it off subconsciously.''
Who knows. But the riff suits very well both of the songs (that's what really matters), and songs don't have any point in common except of that riff. They take their own path.
Also, here's an anecdote; I used to play music with a guitarist/composer that had quite enough of my continual remarks about his compositions, such as ''What you play is pretty similar to x and y song''. I think it got to his nerves lol | Jethro42
11.19.15 | ''*except for*that riff'' I should say :/ | Nagrarok
11.20.15 | 'But the riff suits very well both of the songs (that's what really matters), and songs don't have any point in common except of that riff. They take their own path.'
Indeed.
'Also, here's an anecdote; I used to play music with a guitarist/composer that had quite enough of my continual remarks about his compositions, such as ''What you play is pretty similar to x and y song''. I think it got to his nerves lol'
Haha, I can imagine. Perhaps you have a sixth sense for noticing these things! It would explain everything ;) | Jethro42
11.20.15 | Maybe ;) Well I would rather like to use a sixth sense to compose music instead of criticizing someone else's compositions haha. |
