The Box - what distinguishes this from quite a few other songs on his third album is that it's a) relatively short, which prevents it from getting a bit tiring at some point and b) that the characteristic dramatic finish (really no idea why he had to do it on every single track on here) doesn't feel overblown, but rather angry and desperate in a way. | | 9 |  | Damien Rice

Prague - one of two hidden tracks on his debut and pretty much his most depressing one, amassing every negative emotion lost love could trigger in its unsettling mix of loud outbreaks and passages stripped of almost any music. | | 8 | | Damien Rice

Delicate - while The Blower's Daughter would be most people's choice, I'd say this is the quintessential Damien Rice tune. Touching, gentle and it just summarizes "O" perfectly. | | 7 | | Damien Rice

Silent Night - the second hidden track and an absolutely beautiful a capella song. Lisa Hannigan's vocals are some of the best, when it comes to expressing something innocent, yet heartbroken and hopeless. A shame she went for nice, but emotionally unimpressive folk-pop as a solo artist, instead of showing those qualities more often. | | 5 | | Damien Rice

Cannonball - despite his generally stripped-down sound, this is still his only song with just him and acoustic guitars. No strings, no drums, no piano, which makes it his "purest" moment, a track that really isn't about sounding all that great, let alone some thought-through arrangement, but about its message. | | 4 | | Damien Rice

Cheers Darlin' - This is probably just a very personal one for me - at least I have never seen anyone else mentioning it -, simply because its lyrics I can relate to the most. But apart from that it's still an amazing song, cause in its understated way it displays betrayal, anger and some kind of vengefulness in such a moving way. | | 3 | | Damien Rice

Volcano - it doesn't get much better than a perfectly balanced Hannigan/Rice duet. He of course has his really great moments alone, but her clean voice and the burdened, dark way she interprets her parts just adds something to those tracks that he doesn't have. | | 2 | | Damien Rice

It Takes A Lot To Know A Man - "MFFF" traded the intimate, relatable style of "O" for something bigger and probably a little bit bolder. Still touching at times and on the whole his most precise work, but in its partial epicness also somewhat misguided. This is one hell of an exception though. Long, definitely long, but also dramatic in the best sense of the word. | | 1 |  | Damien Rice

9 Crimes - Hannigan's first verse makes this the saddest piece of music I know. Just perfect and a shame that it had to end up on something as lame as "9". | |

11.17.15 | I know that Blowers Daughter is his signature song, but I never really got how it would be one of his best songs. It's great, but nowhere near 1-4 for me.
Don't like Long Long Way and I Don't Want To Change You all that much, the weakest on the album apart from Trusty and True for me. The t/t and Colour Me In would be 11 and 12 though, both great tracks. | Sinternet
