Talons Turns 21 Years Old

Today's my 21st birthday and it's already been a very fun day, looking forward to some kind of surprise event happening in Boston my gf and friend are taking me to later (edit: TD Garden Comics Come home). Also already got two 6 packs of hard lemonade and hard cider as presents, and room is full of balloons and candy. Have a feeling this is gonna be a fantastic day. List is jams I've been enjoying recently. Comment any fun 21st b-day stories!
1Panopticon
Autumn Eternal

Was not expecting this to happen, but this ended up as my favorite metal album since 2010. Everything about it is perfect to me, and evokes such an incredible, evocative atmosphere including themes of my favorite season. AOTY along with Foals - What Went Down
2Ulver
Kveldssanger

My favorite dark folk album, working on a review for it atm that will hopefully do it justice.
3Gazpacho
Molok

Very quirky and diverse, even for them, takes time to digest and certainly gets better and better with each listen.
4Alcest
Ecailles De Lune

One of my all time favorites, and an amazing example of how beautiful metal can be.
5Puscifer
Money Shot

Was surprised with how good this ended up being, second half in particular has some choice cuts.
6Electric Wizard
Dopethrone

Can't believe it took me so long to give this band a shot, album is such an absorbing experience and has fantastic passion, one of the heaviest, grittiest, albums I've ever heard with a sick album cover to top it all off.
7Have a Nice Life
Deathconsciousness

Just gave this a listen for the first time as well, love how diverse it is while holding to a stylistically thick and droning atmosphere.
8Cradle of Filth
Hammer of the Witches

Their best since Midian and one of the best metal albums of the year m/
9Rush
Hemispheres

Been on a Rush craze, having only heard Moving Pictures and part of Permanent Waves before, I jammed their entire discography up 'til Grace Under Pressure over the past two weeks and will continue on at some point. This is their best.
10Rishloo
Eidolon

This was a very interesting find, very versatile singing and fantastic musicianship all around. Not just another Tool clone as some call them.
11Oceansize
Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up

Haven't listened in a while but very underrated, band is one of the most consistent of post-rock/progressive rock.
12Pain of Salvation
Remedy Lane

Another fantastic prog band, reminds me of a less cheesy Dream Theater at times.
13Talk Talk
Laughing Stock

Best album ever? probs.
14Morbus Chron
Sweven

Infectious, psychedelic dm that always does it for me. Their debut is cool too, not really anything like this but some great throwback dm material worth hearing.
15Neurosis
A Sun That Never Sets

Have been jamming this and Times of Grace a lot lately, this has their best lyrics imo, and almost as good as Eye of Every Storm.
16Intronaut
The Direction of Last Things

Better than the last one, which I liked more than most, with more energy and passion than any of their others probably, even if I prefer a few of the older ones.
17Dream Theater
When Dream and Day Unite

Finally gave this a full listen, not even that bad and the singing grows on you, seriously. Of course doesn't touch the albums they did right afterwards, but pretty underrated. By far the worst thing about this is the production and mixing.
18Red Hot Chili Peppers
Californication

Another band besides Rush that I jammed a ton of albums from for the first time. This and By The Way are tied for my favorite, such great musicianship and guitar textures. Will have to check out Josh's solo stuff asap
19maudlin of the Well
Part the Second

First song is among their very best, one of the most unique and creative albums I've heard recently. Had to post the free download on FB (the band made it available, no illegal shit) check it out you won't regret it: http://www.maudlinofthewell.net/
20Swallow the Sun
Emerald Forest and the Blackbird

Finally heard this, used to be my favorite band in high school and was afraid this would disappoint given what people said about it. Of course they were wrong, and this is just as fantastic as everything else they've ever done. Am planning on making my next review (my 50th) on their new triple album, which sounds incredible from the info they released so far.
