Overhated music

Bands/Albums that I think are credited for being worse than they actually are.
1Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Band: They're not a fantastic band but I commonly see them rated along the 1, 1.5, 2 range and it confuses me a little. Musically they are very strong (or were before the Rev died). Their guitiarists sound really compact with each other. Their lyrics aren't completely horrible (M.I.A. is a track with fantastic lyrics), and even though at first M Shadows had a really whiny voice, it did improve. Overall, I just don't think they're nearly as bad as people make them out to be.
2Green Day
21st Century Breakdown

Album: Green Day seems like a pretty weird case for most people on this website. In the 1990s, they were basically a mainstream punk band (alongside acts such as the Offspring, Rancid, Bad Religion, etc.) Once Blink-182 emerged into the mainstream, Green Day became pop punk, but still having slightly more punk influences then most other bands in the genre. People on this website seem to somewhat like Dookie-Nimrod, and American Idiot seems to be somewhat of a divider. A lot of people appreciate it without liking it, a lot of people like it, a lot of people dislike it. However, it seems like the general public dislikes this album. It is a poor follow up to American Idiot, but the album is pretty listenable. There are plenty of decent tracks scattered around on here, and I don't really think it deserves the ratings it gets. With that being said, it's far from being one of their best albums, but it definitely doesn't merit the hate it gets.
3Hoobastank
Hoobastank

Band: More people need to listen to the first four of songs on self titled. They started off well. The only problem is they really did sell out with "The Reason". But "The Reason" wasn't the only song of theirs. Their first two albums (Basketball Shorts and Hoobastank) were both pretty good. I feel like the people who really hate on this band are those who don't or didn't know "Crawling in the Dark" or "Running Away"
4Linkin Park
Minutes to Midnight

Album: Two albums into the career of this nu metal band and the nu metal scene was already starting to die off. Linkin Park figured the only thing they could do to stay relevant was by releasing this album, which was supposed to be a stylistic change and a sign of the evolution that was to come. While in certain places (Hands Held High, Bleed it Out) the tracks sound very disorganized, this album has a couple of gems as well. Valentine's Day and the Little Things Give You Away are two fantastic songs that the old Linkin Park couldn't have written. While the album has a lot of organization problems, that's what you'd expect from a band that overall played the same songs with different lyrics for the past two albums. They had a lot of ideas and the ideas didn't blend well, but that was their first time experimenting. Consistency wise they got better.
