Folk Favorites: (Neofolk/Black Metal)
here are some of my favorite folk influenced albums for this time of the year. might make it an ongoing list series we'll see. threw in a couple that aren't exactly neofolk/bm just to keep things more interesting. |
| 1 | | Agalloch The White
obviously |
| 2 | | Falls of Rauros The Light That Dwells in Rotten Wood
overall one of my favorite atmospheric bm bands |
| 3 | | Tenhi Maaaet
I've been blown away by pretty much everything Tenhi has done, but this one is really special |
| 4 | | Saor Aura
I was convinced I liked roots better but right now I'm not so sure. definitely an album worth returning to again and again |
| 5 | | Drudkh Microcosmos
current favorite drudkh prolly. I've always loved autumn aurora and blood in our wells but I can't get enough of this one right now. |
| 6 | | Sangre de Muerdago O Camino das Mans Valeiras
pretty underrated neofolk band, this is from 2015 and is becoming one of my favorites of the year |
| 7 | | Ulver Kveldssanger
excellent album that continues to grow on me |
| 8 | | Agalloch The Mantle
as much as I want to not include the same band twice I can't not have the mantle on this list. |
| 9 | | Panopticon Roads to the North
this one was a bit of a grower for me, but the folk elements are fantastic and I just love it. stoked for autumn eternal! |
| 10 | | Caladan Brood Echoes Of Battle
similar to summoning. epic with folk influences |
| 11 | | Asya Sergeeva Heart of Winter
definitely one of the most unknown albums on this list. only has 2 votes but it's such a beautiful album that has grown on me considerably since last year |
| 12 | | Downfall of Nur Umbras de Barbagia
I don't care if it came out this year, this is easily already one of my favorite folk influenced black metal albums |
| 13 | | Tenhi Saivo
another band I couldn't resist putting on here twice. I feel this is one of their most underappreciated albums, it's a bit more minimalistic than their other stuff, but has a very relaxing sound that's great for the fall |
| 14 | | Musk Ox Woodfall
this album is the one that really got me more interested in instrumental folk. great stuff |
| 15 | | Spectral Lore III
there are many influences here other than just folk, but man this album is excellent. one of my favorites from 2014 |
| 16 | | Neun Welten Destrunken
I like this and vergessene pfade about the same. great neofolk band |
| 17 | | Summoning Old Mornings Dawn
hard to pick a favorite summoning album, but the title track on here is solid af |
| 18 | | Nachtreich/Spectral Lore The Quivering Lights
although it's a split, this should be regarded in the same light as any full length out there. two very impressive bands blending together black metal, folk, classical. haven't heard a ton of splits, but this is one of my favorites |
| 19 | | Dornenreich Freiheit
another band that combines folk and black metal. haven't heard their other stuff but love this one |
| 20 | | Nest (FIN) Trail of the Unwary
one of my all-time favorite neofolk bands that also has a good amount of ambient influence. They have a new one released this year as well but this one is a personal favorite |
| 21 | | Grouper Ruins
loooove this album |
| 22 | | Vali Forlatt
Both their albums are great |
| 23 | | Grouper Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill
can't get enough grouper in the fall and I couldn't pick between this and ruins |
| 24 | | October Falls Marras
gorgeous album |
| 25 | | Insomnium Above the Weeping World
great fall album |
| 26 | | Kauan Pirut
my new favorite band |
| 27 | | Novemthree Renewing |
| 28 | | Rota Fortunae Solstice |
| 29 | | Winterfylleth The Hallowing of Heirdom |
| 30 | | Woljager Van't Liewen un Stiawen |
