Actual neofolk isn't that bad I guess although I'm definitely not a big fan myself and there's a lot of instrumental dark folk that gets labelled as neofolk that is mostly dull as fuck. I do like Vali though, even though their style falls into that latter category.

The only death metal albums I've heard so far are Human, Symbolic, Unquestionable Presence, Obscura, None So Vile, Close to a World Below, Mental Funeral, Nespithe and Onward to Golgotha. Of these my favourites are by far Presence and Obscura. So based on my exp tech death > death, although arguably I haven't heard enough to make a strong judgement.

It's usually a lazy direction, get some big backing vocals in there and you can get away with some half arsed song writing. 'Oh it sounds huge, soulful and emotional!' and predictable and as subtle as a brick to the crotch most of the time. Mainstream pop is clogged with this influence in the UK right now, desperate shit
