09.06.15 | idk man my thoughts running like crazy i can't stop it |
ArsMoriendi
09.06.15 | Yeah I agree. Starring at a screen right before bed, actually makes it really hard to fall asleep. I also suggest getting in bed a half hour earlier than you normally would and just lie down awake thinking so by the time it's actually time to go to bed you'll be settled down. |
Cyberduck
09.06.15 | Some relaxing sport like running usually helps me, as well as being active during the day. |

09.06.15 | Take some melatonin |
Mythodea
09.06.15 | For starters, see if a problem bothers you. Maybe that's what keeps you awake: anxiety. Then, if you can't solve it, or if you have nothing to solve, try what the others said. A bath, a small dinner, clean sheets, a walk or run around your house. Stay awake from passive entertainment, like internet or television. Reading a book may help. If you think this is more than temporary, you could seek for medical advice. |
Balerion
09.06.15 | Try ZMA, melatonin, or Valeryan Root. Try not to use any electronic devices atleast An hour before bed. Try reading or making a nighttime tea ritual. I have a really hard time sleeping and all these things help me |

09.06.15 | I have trouble sleeping because of my anxiety so I know to avoid the following:
- Staring at screens before sleep
- Strenuous activity
- Eating dairy products
- Fast/aggressive music (classical/ambient should be ok)
- Drinking a lot of water
- Any thing that requires a lot of mindpower.
Some helpful tips:
- Stick to a strict sleep schedule or at least follow a routine
- Herbal teas
- Avoid being awake when it's dark outside
- Keep fit, physically and mentally
If you still have issues visit your doctor, who may recommend a sleep therapist or some monitoring to find the issue. It is often a side-effect of anxiety though. |

09.06.15 | "Avoid being awake when it's dark outside"
Sleep 16 hours in the winter. |
Sinternet
09.06.15 | Perhaps I didn't word that correctly lol
Often being awake in pitch darkness or late at night causes someone to psychologically normalize being awake at that time and they grow accustomed to the light levels, making it harder for their brain to reduce activity.
Of course sleeping 16 hours in the winter probably isn't advisable. |

09.06.15 | Just to clear sth, not that I don't believe you or anything. It's a common misconception that if you can't sleep at night you have sleeping problems. But if you sleep, say, at 4 a.m. till 1 p.m the next day, then it's not that you have a problem or anything, it's just your inner clock has changed its patterns. Sooo, which is it? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.06.15 | 1) get that plug in on your comp that changes your screen color at night time. the normal screen light makes ur brain think its day.
2) try melotonin
3) try some meditation, u can do it laying down. if u aren't good at clearing your brain just slow your breaths and count them until you lose count and forget about it. u can do this in combo with melatonin too. i used to do this all the time when i had trouble sleeping years ago. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.06.15 | also what mythodea said is apt, melotonin is helpful for resetting your sleep cycle if it is indeed that u just fucked up your cycle, not that u have trouble sleeping
that was the case for me |
Mythodea
09.06.15 | Currently have something like that. I sleep extremely heavily (on the point I don't wake on the sound of two alarms) and I can't even wake up with the help of sun light (that could wake me easily at 9:00 precisely). Now, even if I take a nap at afternoon, it's definite I won't be able to sleep till late at night.... |

09.06.15 | also fuckign nice list man

this plagued me for a long time while i was in college man, it was depressing as fuck. i could fall asleep before 3 or 4 am and then i'd sleep til like 2-4pm the next day, unless i had class and then id have to force myself out of bed and when i got home i couldnt not nap and then id nap til like 9pm and reinforce the cycle. seriously fucked me up for a while. |

Yeah, it's a messy situation. But hey, I gather when I finish with exams on Tuesday I'll have the opportunity to control my sleep pattern. Never had serious problem sleeping, this is the first time it happens to me. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.06.15 | actually i just thought of the best thing
go ask Treeqt for music, reading, and movie recs. engage in anything he suggests and you'll be put right the fuck out thanks to aggressive boredom. |

i wish ya luck. the only thing that sorted me out tbh was graduating and getting a full time job so i was forced to wake up at the same time every morning. now the latest i can sleep in is 10:30am. |

09.07.15 | All good points have already been made.
The only thing I can add is, if you use your computer heavily at night, then you might want to give a shot to this nifty program that's called f.lux (LordPots mentioned it), it's free and fucking amazing. It changes your screen's color temperature according to the time of the day and it really works wonders.
Of course, ideally you wouldn't stare at a screen one hour before sleepy time. But hey, who does? |

Or just watch something you've seen 2000 times. F.lux is a nice idea if you have mucked up your sleep pattern, doesn't work for onset-sleep insomnia though. |

09.07.15 | I've had trouble sleeping over the years, but my issue used to be that I have a hard time allowing myself to kind of switch my mind off and allow myself to be in a position to actually drift off. There's been nights where I'll just be lying awake thinking about things, and before I know it, a couple of hours have gone by. And they wouldn't even be major things that I'd be thinking about; nothing that would make me anxious or stressful, just really mundane stuff like what I needed to do the next day etc.
I've just had to train myself over the years to just kind of turn my mind off and not think about anything at all. It still happens from time to time though, but I'm pretty used to it by now. Could be another trick for you to try |
skeames1214
09.07.15 | Benadryl used to help me. Just one or two pills tho, any more than that and you'll get some weird auditory hallucinations. |
