| Things I'd Like To Review Soon
Just 10 albums I want to write a review for now that summer has set in and I have a lot more free time on my hands, whether or not they ever get done depends but it's nice to have goals! | | 1 | | Cynestole/Mirkwood split
I already have started my review for this, so it should be up soon. This little split album from 2 bands who met on this site is quite good, both bands take a cool approach to black metal and manage to be better than a lot of bands in the scene today. | | 2 | | Current 93 All the Pretty little Horses
Quite possibly my favorite neofolk album ever, All the Pretty Little Horses is unlike anything you have ever heard, with unique vocals, lyrics and a musical approach like none other this is an album that simply must be heard by all, for it is quite the experience. | | 3 | | Moevot Abgzvoryathre
I would like to review this simply because it is probably the worst piece of music I have ever heard. I like dark ambient, a lot, but this isn't dark ambient like it claims to be, a guy moaning into a microphone with hilarious screaming and keyboards over the top is not dark ambient, it's crappy LLN noise. | | 4 | | Terrorizer World Downfall
The grind and death metal fans on this website sure seem to overlook this album, why is quite confusing as it is one of the most important and best releases in both of it's respected genres. World Downfall is not like grindcore has evolved into over time, it has amazing memorable riffs, insane drumming that never overdoes it and is overall the most asskicking album out there. | | 5 | | Ash Pool Gential Tomb
Although Genital Tomb is a simple 4 song demo of lo-fi black metal it has proven to be one of the highest quality black metal releases to come out of the US. A lot of the riffs on this demo are more akin to traditional metal while some songs like First Rape blast you with an incredible yet epic raw black metal assault, a must have for any black metal fan. The vocals are also fucking elite. | | 6 | | Raison d'Etre The Empty Hollow Unfolds
Raison d'Etre for me are THE dark ambient act, everything about the music fits the perfect criteria for incredible ambient, from the well placed sampling to the epic and frequent use of Gregorian chanting to create a haunting surreal atmosphere for the listener, this is the kind of music you can listen to in the dark with it blasted, or at least if you want to get the most out of the listening experience. | | 7 | | Death in June But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?
Another one of my all time favorite neofolk albums, Death in June create very beautiful and simple music, but is kept interesting by the fantastic chord progressions of every song and subtle elements such as nice synthesizer melodies put over the songs or the use of trumpets. Little Black Angel is one of my favorite songs ever as well. | | 8 | | Forest Like a Blaze Above the Ashes
Unfortunetly for Blaze Birth Hall's Forest they seem to be a one hit album band, luckily though that one album Like a Blaze Above the Ashes is very good. The first couple songs on this album are very straightforward black metal with epic and unique chord progressions and melodies, the vocals are great and the production is lo-fi but quality enough to hear everything that needs hearing. The 3rd and 4th song are more atmospheric tracks but the 3rd song contains some of the best riffing around and the 4th song is quite pretty. | | 9 | | Atrium Carceri Ptahil
Another high quality dark ambient release, although unlike Raison d'Etre who deliver more of an epic and eerie sound, Atrium Carceri focuses on simply creeping you the fuck out. And it works, between the eerie female vocals in the first song to the haunting piano sections in others Ptahil proves to be a very engaging and attention holding dark ambient release. | | 10 | | Rome Confessions d'un voleur d'âmes
Rome are a recent discovery of mine, and all I can say is I'm in love with their sound. Rome are a combination of a few different styles, such as martial industrial, neofolk and a few others, the music as a whole is very beautiful and the singer has a very warm and magnificent voice, there is a good deal of variance on this album where some songs focus more on the industrial elements and some are almost straight up folk, highly recommended for all, listen to a song here: ://www.coldmeat.se/sounds/audio/rome/rome_querkraft.mp3 | |

07.06.08 | I thought about 9 but you're better than I am. Do that, all sound good but 3. Fuck that. | Angmar
07.06.08 | lol why fuck 3? If you're into death metal at all you would have no problem liking it. You can do 9 if you want, I probably won't get to it any time soon. | Angmar
07.06.08 | oops for some reason I looked at my list wrongly and saw #4 as #3 lol, nm. | BallsToTheWall
07.06.08 | I'll check some of these out for sure. Off topic however, Dance Of December Souls seems pretty dull. The bass is great but the album is putting me to sleep. Just through first spin though. | slep
07.06.08 | I've been intrigued by 2, and I've always wondered why it has no review. | jrowa001
