| Advice from musicians
My roommates and I moved from Korea to Texas 8 1/2 years ago to pursue our dream of playing music, but after a list of reasons that could fill a novel, we have not played a single show, or recorded a legit album. We recently watched Whiplash and decided that it was time to give up this dream or take it seriously, so we began practicing rigorously. We found a student producer at a Recording academy in Austin and he enjoyed our stuff so much he is recording our 4 song ep for free. We have spent over 100 hours in a multimillion dollar studio already, learning and going back to polish things up, without paying a dime. We concluded tracking and retracking two weeks ago, but now our producer is saying he wants to start from scratch because he has had major breakthroughs working with industry professionals. My bandmates and I want to put out an ep that is performed and recorded to the best of our abilities, so we are definitely going to do this, but I was just wondering when you guys thought enough was enough? We are only going to continue to improve, and so is he, so where is the stopping point? I know this is an opportunity that doesn't fall into people's laps, so I definitely want to take full advantage. | 1 | | Yes Close to the Edge
These are some very old home recordings we did about 4 years ago. The lack of vox was due to our inability to sing anything that would make it seem like we were trying to take this endeavor seriously. That has been the main obstacle we have had to remove and feel we are there. This has been our dream and kind of our last hurrah | 2 | | Pink Floyd The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

http://www.stinsonstudios.com/ - this is the studio if anyone in the Texas area is looking to record. The pricing is at the student's discretion, so if he/she likes it, they could do it for free or a small fee. | 5 | | Minus the Bear Menos El Oso
Thanks for taking the time out of your day, I know it's limited. | |

06.08.15 | I have no experience in the matter to give any advice, but it's cool as hell that you're getting this opportunity. Just listened to the first track and it's really nice (despite some obvious sound quality issues as I'm sure you're aware), good luck with your ep | CoolCalmJoe
06.08.15 | Thanks man, I really appreciate that. Yea, it's a great opportunity, just a bit maddening not having a baseline for our expectations. | wwf
06.08.15 | Yeah that's pretty cool. I know your feel, I've been getting better at recording for about two years now and I started recording an album about six months ago and I keep redoing everything about it. I'm not sure when to release it either.
About you though: are you paying for to record the second time? If not, I'd say your doing the right thing for sure rerecording it. | Friday13th
06.09.15 | Sounds tight! What's your band name so I can keep track of you? | Eggvander
06.09.15 | fuck, looks like you guys got majorly inspired by piglet ! keep this up. This is really great stuff, especially for old home recordings. Looking forward to hear the final product. | Sevengill
06.09.15 | I interviewed Andi Deris and asked a question about this. His response was pretty great.

06.09.15 | Jesus fucking Christ! You guys are freaking amazing! | GmemberKills
06.09.15 | omg sahm is so amazing. Blew my expectations away. Hopefully you take your music far honestly its's never too late to do something you enjoy, i'd say the stopping point is when it's no longer enjoyable anymore. | CoolCalmJoe
06.09.15 | @wwf Yea it's a process. Not paying for the second time either, and considering the first go was our first experience in studio we feel we can get it down better in a shorter amount of time. Definitely let me know when you decide to release your work, I've heard a lot of great stuff from users on this site
@Friday13th Pyeonghwa (Peace in Korean) We're all half Korean and something else and grew up there for 14-17 years so. Also there was a music store called Pyeonghwa who always hooked us up with factory price equipment.
@Eggvander Never heard of piglet until now but listened to Lava Land in full and this is some amazing stuff. Definitely will draw some inspiration from it now. Hope you do hear it. I spent a lot of time on this site expanding my taste and having stupid debates that tempered my mentality. The opinions of those here have significance to me.
@Sevengill I'd never heard of Andi Deris before, but his answer was indeed great. I suppose what we have now will be a good snapshot of where we were now. The guy seems really nice as well.
@Royl123 Stahp!
@GmemberKills Thank you, our music means a lot to us so it means a lot to hear you say that. We are pretty aware of how difficult it is to play music as a full time gig but definitely aspire to it. In the mean time we are definitely enjoying the process. I can say for certain that the studio is my favorite place to be. | ConcubinaryCode

06.09.15 | Man this is awesome stuff, I hope the EP comes up soon! Those tracks sound very promising and you seem to have the gear needed to carry on so that is cool.
As far as I can tell, I consider a song 'done' when I'm able to listen to it three times in a row without feeling frustrated because this or that doesn't sound right, or because we should add a melodic line here and there, or because the bass should go louder whatever. So far it has never happened.

06.09.15 | Go for it mate. Make some memories for yourselves. |
