05.30.15 | Needless to say ranking is impossible... but i tried my best. I honestly love 1-20 |
argonaut
05.30.15 | Great list, this album is so awesome. Good to see Anyway ranked so high, I'd probably have Hairless Heart and Counting Out Time ranked higher. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | I don't blame u! And ya anyway has hacketts most underrated solo. |
argonaut
05.30.15 | Yeah, one of them for sure. Love the lyrics in that song too. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | Agreed. Gabriel is at his absolute best on here in just about every regard |
argonaut
05.30.15 | I think Selling England By The Pound edges this one as my favorite Genesis record, but just barely. |
JaySpiral
05.30.15 | Man I haven't listened to this album in way too long. Such a good summer album. |
argonaut
05.30.15 | Yeah, it's been a while for me too. Might listen to it today, since this list reminded me how amazing it is. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | Nice |
JaySpiral
05.30.15 | Same here. Unfortunately it's the only album out of the big four Peter Gabriel era albums that I don't have on vinyl. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | Fuck it....just jam the fucker. :D |
Cygnatti
05.30.15 | never jammed but i love the title for some reason |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | Jam it! |
argonaut
05.30.15 | Yeah, do it. Classic album with a classic title. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | Everything about the album is classic |
Superb
05.30.15 | Aw man, I love the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging. |
Jethro42
05.30.15 | Listening to this from a to z is still the best way to go. I pretty much agree with your top 10, except maybe for LilyWhite Lilith. Really not a bad song though but I'd replace it by Riding the Scree. I can see it must have been hard to rank though.
Cool list! |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | @ Jethro thanks! Of coarse a-z is the way to go! But I thought a song ranking would be a nice challenge, especially for such a monster album. |
Torontonian
05.30.15 | She gonna lead u thruuuuu the tunnel of liiiiiiiight! She gonna lead u riiiiiiiight! |

05.30.15 | I thought this was going to be a list ranking lies that user LambsBread has posted on Sputnik |
Jethro42
05.30.15 | Take a look at Genesis Archive no 1 (1967-75). It contains The Lamb live in its entirety, and it rocks still harder. |

05.31.15 | thanks jethro will check! i'm a little skeptical though as there are very few things that rock as hard as the LP! |
JamieTwort
05.31.15 | Nice.
The Lamia is 1 for me.
I'd also have In the Rapids (love Gabriel's vocals in that one, so much emotion) and The Light Dies Down on Broadway a fair bit higher.
No real complaints with your top 10 though. |
Frippertronics
05.31.15 | Lamia is 1 [2]
also, the Archive version of the live show has the vocals and guitar redone. It is just the studio version with new vocals. The actual complete show w/o the redone parts and the version of It can be found online. It was recorded for King Biscuit I believe. |
Superb
05.31.15 | Nah man It or In the Cage is #1 for me. |
Torontonian
05.31.15 | ^1-16 could all pretty much be appropriate favorites dude hehe
@Jethro heard a few songs of the links, they really nail every aspect of the songs but i'm not sure i quite like it as much as the studio version. Appreciate it though!
@Jamie nice, and i just realized i gave a lot of side 4 the shaft a bit hehe (20-22)
@fripp really? as similar as the archives sounds to the LP i'm pretty sure i hear some minor differences in the instrumentation. Bu then again i'm listening on the computer so i could be wrong. |
Frippertronics
05.31.15 | the archives had peter and steve doing new parts, everything else is the same (as in, it's from the original live show and not redone). The original show is widely available, and the differences are very noticeable. I mean, Peter didn't have that deep of a voice in 1975. The changes were quite subtle and well done, but one hint is that they used a lot of reverb on Peter and Steve's new parts. It's blatantly obvious especially on It, since the whole thing is covered with reverb to try and attempt the fact they used the studio version (they claimed in '98 they couldn't find the live version, but all along, it wasn't lost) |
Superb
05.31.15 | Eh, my favourite from the album changes a lot. Second best Genesis album, definitely. |
JamieTwort
06.01.15 | 1st best Genesis album, definitely. |
Superb
06.01.15 | Nahhhh, I like a Trick of the Tail much more. |
JamieTwort
06.01.15 | lol what? |
Superb
06.01.15 | I dunno, guess I'm just a bigger fan of the more consistent Selling England-ish album. :P |
Torontonian
06.01.15 | Much more? nuthin wrong with liking Trick more as it definetly has its own charm but damn A LOT MORE? |
Superb
06.02.15 | Oh, well, no. Not a lot more. I gave this a 4.5 and that a 5. So not much more, no. Sorry. |
JamieTwort
06.02.15 | I like A Trick of the Tail a lot but it's far too 'nice' and safe to come close to The Lamb. |
JWT155
06.02.15 | Carpet Crawlers |
Superb
06.02.15 | I don't think they should've been too experimental with their first album after Gabriel left, don't think that would've worked out. |
