Sorta Halfway Thru 2015 Favorites
Here's my top albums so far in the year. |
| 1 | | Father John Misty I Love You, Honeybear
One of the best folk records I've ever heard to be honest with ya. It's even made me explore the genre, because FJM has a lot of psychedelic influences in his folk writing; acid folk, whatever you call it. Helped me discover more artists like Nick Drake and Donovan. Favorite Tracks: "I Love You, Honeybear" "Holy Shit" "Nothing Ever Happens at the Goddamn Thirsty Crow" |
| 2 | | Jamie xx In Colour
Just came out and I'm digging the shit out of it! Favorite Tracks: "Gosh" "Girl" "Loud Places" |
| 3 | | Viet Cong Viet Cong
Very atmospheric, haunting, and shuttering post-punk. I need to re-listen to it soon. Favorite tracks: "Continental Shelf" "Bunker Buster" |
| 4 | | Blur The Magic Whip
Wasn't expecting much because Blur usually annoys me besides Think Tank. I was pleasantly surprised, it sounds like a mix of Damon Albarn's latest solo album and Plastic Beach with the traditional band feel. Favorite Tracks "I Broadcast" "My Terracotta Heart" "New World Towers" "Ice Cream Man" |
| 5 | | Unknown Mortal Orchestra Multi-Love
Very nice lo-fi psych pop. It's even got some jazzy grooves to it! Favorite Tracks "Can't Keep Checking my Phone" "Extreme Wealth and Casual Cruelty" |
| 6 | | Twenty One Pilots Blurryface
I didn't think these guys were going to get this big. I mean they're basically the newest tumblr craze that Fueled by Ramen's onslaught of pop-punk archive for 15 year-olds has pursued. However, I think these guys have a nice originality to them even if they may get annoying after awhile. Also I'm fairly certain I loved the shit out of this the second time I heard it only because I was stoned. Nonetheless, pretty good, hope they don't go down a dark path. Favorite Tracks: "Heavydirtysoul" "The Judge" "Stressed Out" |
| 7 | | Say Lou Lou Lucid Dreaming
This shit is catchy. Just straight up dreamy and catchy and it wears down near the end but it's got some really strong songs to it. Favorite Tracks: "Julian" "Everything we Touch" |
| 8 | | Elvis Depressedly New Alhambra
It took me a very long time to get into this artist. I'm still a little unfamiliar with him, but from what I've heard from listening to this album 3 times, I'd say I'm fairly invested in it. Favorite Tracks: "Big Break" "N.M.S.S." |
| 9 | | White Reaper White Reaper
Anticipating:
'White Reaper Does it Again" set to be released in July I believe. Can't wait for this record. Loved their EP and the two singles they've released thus far are just dirty, trippy, and sugary punk madness |
| 10 | | Tame Impala Currents
Anticipating:
Loved all 4 singles coming from this so far. Let it Happen is probably going to be in my top 5 tracks of the year. |
| 11 | | Disclosure Settle
Anticipating:
Alright so they haven't announced any specific album details, but they have done two new singles.
Bang That: Although listening to it makes me feel like a fuck boi, it's nonetheless alright.
Holding On: Better than Bang That, but really didn't strike any major emotion to me. 6/10 at best. |
| 12 | | Deftones Koi No Yokan
Anticipating:
I heard they're doing something with Alice in Chains on their next record, so I assume they're in the process of recording. Seeing them live this year as well at Darien Lake! |
