| Anniversaries of the Week: May 22
Nostalgia is everywhere these days, and what better to celebrate it with anniversaries of great music and movies? Here's stuff that turned a "round" number of years this past week. | | 1 | | Janelle Monae The ArchAndroid
Remains one of my favorite modern R&B albums. I also can't help listening to that Pharrell - "Happy"/"Tightrope" mashup someone made on YouTube. The first time I heard "Happy", I was like, "he's just copying Janelle!" haha - 5th Anniversary (released May 18, 2010) | | 2 | | The Black Keys Brothers
Yes, "Tighten Up" got way overplayed, but it's still a great song. "Next Girl" might be my favorite though. - 5th Anniversary (released May 18, 2010) | | 3 | | LCD Soundsystem This Is Happening
James Murphy brings his signature dance project to an excellent finish. Favorite track is "You Wanted a Hit" and I cannot get "Drunk Girls" out of my head to this day. Also, of course, there is "Dance Yrself Clean", which goes without needing to be said. - 5th Anniversary (released May 18, 2010; as you can see, May 18, 2010 was a truly great day for music) | | 4 | | John Williams Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
George Lucas concludes his mediocre prequel trilogy by ending with the greatest of the three entries, and completing Darth Vader's story. I'm not going to be heading out to see Abrams' The Force Awakens immediately, but it's gotta be better than this cap to the series so far, eh? - 10th Anniversary (released May 19, 2005) | | 5 | | Frank Stallone Frank Stallone
Rambo: First Blood Part II, the one everybody recognizes when they think of Sylvester Stallone's action hero, turns 30 today (released May 22, 1985) | | 6 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP
One of hip-hop's most beloved albums turns 15 tomorrow (released May 23, 2000). I am one of those who simply can't handle "Kim" in its entirety, it's too much for me. Love the rest of the album though. I think The Eminem Show might actually be my favorite of his. | | 7 | | A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms
Proving that Maynard could do much more than just Tool, a great alt-metal record. - 15th Anniversary (released May 23, 2000) | | 8 | | James Horner Braveheart
Mel Gibson's studly-man-action-fest turns 20 on Sunday (released May 24, 1995) THEY WILL NEVER TAKE... OUR FREEDOM!!!! | |
