Kate Bush Ranked

Love Kate Bush. Love her
9Kate Bush
Lionheart

After the popularity of The Kick Inside, Bush was admittedly rushed to create her second album, which she herself has shown discontent for. Her voice is as beautiful as ever, but most songs just fall flat in comparison to the compositions of The Kick Inside. The album has a strangely theatrical feel to it, possibly inspired by her upcoming "Tour Of Life". Best Tracks: Wow, Hammer Horror, Don't Push Your Foot On The Heartbrake. 3.2/5
8Kate Bush
The Red Shoes

The last album before her decade long hiatus, The Red Shoes is a slightly more personal affair. Still pulling ideas from literature (The title track and video project that went along with it are inspired by the fairy tale of the same name), the problem here is the seemingly bland production. It brightens up at times, like on opener Rubberband Girl, but a good portion of the album just doesn't sound right. Fav Tracks: Rubberband Girl, Moments Of Pleasure, You're The One
3.4/5
7Kate Bush
50 Words for Snow

I'll admit I haven't let this one sink in fully, but there is a lot to take in here. Tracks take their damn sweet time building up and reaching peaks, and it's a rather slow affair aside from the rollicking title track. Fav Tracks: Lake Tahoe, Snowed In At Wheeler Street, 50 Words For Snow 3.7/5
6Kate Bush
The Sensual World

It's here that Kate sounds most intimate and personal. 'This Womans Work' tugs at the heartstrings. Her billowy voice on the title track is simply entrancing. Sensational guitar work shows up her and there, notably on 'Rockets Tail' - an acceptable follow up to Hounds Of Love. Best Tracks: Rocket's Tail, This Woman's Work, Love And Anger
3.9/5
5Kate Bush
Never for Ever

Her first time taking on producing duties alongside Jon Kelly, Never For Ever was a true display of talent on all fronts. Her songwriting takes on serious topics, yet they aren't unaccommodating. For all its accessibility, Never For Ever gets pretty deep - topics range from the relatable to the psychotic to the contemplative, all under forty minutes. Best Tracks: Blow Away (For Bill), The Wedding List, Breathing
4/5
4Kate Bush
The Kick Inside

Hard to pin down to a specific genre, Bush's debut is an interesting work. Songs like the famous Wuthering Heights showcase her impressive vocal range and her approach to songwriting perfectly. Her skills on the piano only accentuate the talent she has. Ever quirky and a bit mystifying, The Kick Inside is a great place to start with Bush. Fav tracks: The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Wuthering Heights, Oh To Be In Love
4.1/5
3Kate Bush
Aerial

It was tough to put this here and not at number two - A Sea Of Honey is rather hit or miss with its songs. It's side two that is phenomenal. A Sky Of Honey is a conceptual side meant to span the length of twenty four hours. As those hours pass the side grows to epic proportions, and a birdsong motif reaches its delirious potential. 4.5/5
Best Tracks: How To Be Invisible, Nocturn, Aerial
2Kate Bush
The Dreaming

The first album solely produced by her, The Dreaming is an eccentric journey through the stories of Kate Bush. With the permission to do as she pleased, Bush went all out on every front. It's arguably her most abrasive work - she's screaming on choruses, she's angry, she's passionate - and while the public didn't like it, it's become an influential piece of work. Best Tracks: Suspended In Gaffa, Get Out Of My House, Sat In Your Lap
4.6/5
1Kate Bush
Hounds Of Love

It had to be this. A flawless side of pop perfection and an equally flawless conceptually suite, there is not one thing wrong with this album. Seriously. What's wrong with it? I fuckin dare you to find something wrong with it. I'll fight your bitch ass
