03.12.15 | But seriously. http://www.metalinjection.net/editorials/reflecting-on-the-new-wave-of-american-heavy-metal.. If you were into NWOAHM during the early 2000's this is a must read |
KILL
03.12.15 | all the worst bands |
mikep87
03.12.15 | haha you too old for that time? |
KILL
03.12.15 | age has nothing to do with it sonny jim, just higher standards than turds jammin CHIMAIRA
i did kinda like log and trivium tho when i was semi retarded |
tempest--
03.12.15 | log are still fun every once in a while but theyre like literally the only good band on this list |
KILL
03.12.15 | yea log aint bad really, i prefer their more generic pantera rip off stuff than the shitty core bollocks everyone swings their arms around like retards to |
mikep87
03.12.15 | Never liked chimaera, why they are at the bottom, I just remember them being at every third show I would be at opening for someone, so I threw them on there. I still jam the top ten up there every once and a while. |
MO
03.12.15 | KILL spittin trvths |
Aftertheascension
03.12.15 | Stupidest fucking list ever.[23] |
mikep87
03.12.15 | Pretty funny to me how much this time period of metal is being ripped. maybe i'll put together a nu metal list just so everyone on sputnik can lose there shit |
zaruyache
03.12.15 | I'd seriously forgotten that the "nwoahm" was even a thing. And it was only 2002-2005? That's shorter than the metalcore buzz in general.
LoG are still pretty decent, nothing amazing, but still respectable. Only other band I liked from this back in the day was Shadows Fall. |
mikep87
03.12.15 | isn't that what it was called? look it up

|
SitarHero
03.12.15 | Wasn't Slipknot lumped in with nowahm? Also, why y'all hating on Shadows Fall? |
zaruyache
03.12.15 | I guess the nwoahm was actually pretty synonymous with the metalcore buzz in general. Idk what I was thinking. |
mikep87
03.12.15 | I would consider Skipknot as a band coming before this time period... lump them with Deftones, Mastodon and some other nu-metal'ish stuff... I don't know why these bands are getting hate, I guess all the people who enjoy metalcore don't go on sputnik before 10am! |
zaruyache
03.12.15 | I like some metalcore just not the trendy popular junk all my classmate metalheads dug because they were silly teens who didn't know anything about metal back in the day.
Not to say my taste was superior, it was mostly like Disturbed, AC/DC and a little Amon Amarth. |
mikep87
03.12.15 | Ah your probably right about mastodon. hard to categorize them into any specific genre. Hard to piece when everything was coming out in the early 2000's. I guess remission came out in 2002, so that came out a full three years after Skipnot's self titled.
This type of music was just so big in my high school (I live in Toronto) that I just got sucked into it and really didn't discover Trash, death, black and doom metal until after I went through that phase. Just interesting to see the level of dislike for it now ten years later. |
mikep87
03.12.15 | These bands sold out venues all over North America, and co-headlined the biggest tours at the time such as Ozzfest, so the respect for them at the time was there... |
mikep87
03.12.15 | I think what metalcore 'became' (uninspired breakdown music essentially) really casts a bad shadow over some of the earlier bands. But hey, what do I know, I just know I liked this shit at the time. |
NeroCorleone80
03.12.15 | These aren't the earlier bands |
mikep87
03.12.15 | fair enough... I think what you mean is you hated it. Or the group of ppl you hung out with. Because I agree with you, just because Nickelback sells millions of records doesn't mean there still isn't hate for them... I do see your point |
mikep87
03.12.15 | fair enough... i'll go back to listening to the new Enslaved and Leviathan records and shut my mouth than. |
organizedsound
03.12.15 | god i totally forgot NWOAHM was a thing. what a fucking lame "movement"....especially the naming of themselves that implies it's somehow the 00's American counterpart/equivalent to/of Maiden, Priest, Tygers...
Lamb of God was/is acceptable, and I loved Shadows Fall back in middle school.I never considered old btbam to be a part of this but if they are, sure, they rule.
Interesting that many of these affliction-core bands are turning out to be even bigger shitheads than we thought them to be before(All That Remains, As I lay Dying...) |
organizedsound
03.12.15 | the more I think about it, I think I might hate this type of music more than any other genre. and I've been a big metal listener my whole life |
zaruyache
03.12.15 | earlier bands would be like Shai Hulud and Converge, right? Also brah you forgot Devildriverrrr |
TalonsOfFire
03.12.15 | lol almost all of this is metalcore |
SharkTooth
03.12.15 | "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_of_American_Heavy_Metal"
that article says that NWOAHM started in the mid 90's with Pantera and Slipknot and includes genres like progressive metal, stoner rock, southern metal, and industrial metal
so why the fuck is this list saying that the period was 2002-2005 and mainly consisted of metalcore? |
mikep87
03.12.15 | lol you mad? I always though of Pantera as influencing this movement but not being a part of it. oh and another reason, its my list of what I liked from about 2002-2005 in the NWOAHM genre. don't like it.. then make your own list. |
organizedsound
03.12.15 | I mean, it doesn't really matter what that Wikipedia article says. Anyone who was following the metal scene and press at the time remembers that NWOAHM was a fad "genre" mainly seen as consisting of bands like LoG, Shadows Fall, All That Remains, Killswitch...mostly garbage bro-core with a few gems. I remember, specifically around 2006-2008 it was being hyped like crazy in the type of publications that wrote about it, which were mostly shit themselves:Guitar World, Ultimate Guitar, Revolver...It always seemed to be a mostly-shit scene that was somehow distinct from nu-metal and other metalcore––there was always this sort of "we're bringing back the golden days of commercial thrash!" mentality to it that was absent in the other, similar scenes. I would never consider good metalcore or Down/Crowbar/Pantera to be a part of it....at all. |
Snake.
04.03.15 | lol how did i miss this
14 is GOAT so i can forgive you |
