Alastor
02.12.15 | haha, cool list. I remember putting albums I liked in the Top10 shelf, back in the day. |
Shiranui
02.12.15 | Yes temp, hence the list.

02.12.15 | I went to a place in Florida that claimed to have a section for every genre. They had Rock, Pop, Alternative, Hard Rock, Metal, Goth, Dance, Industrial, and Reggae/Ska.
Rock was Metallica, and classic rock stuff. Pop was pop and some random pop punk bands. Alternative was mostly alternative, with some pop punk and hardcore. Hard rock was metalcore and Ac/Dc. Metal was more metalcore and some Judas Priest and 80s rock. Goth was literally made up entirely of Black Veil Brides, Evanescence, and Nine Inch Nails. Dance was anything electronic they had. Industrial was just a continuation of dance, like they literally just stuck an "Industrial" sign at a random point in the alphabetical assortment of dance. Reggae/ska was actually reggae and ska.
Oh and I tried to buy a CD and he couldn't find it because he keeps all of the discs in unsorted bins scattered throughout the store.

02.12.15 | Also, having a section called Black is horrible. |
manosg
02.12.15 | Having a "black" section makes me think that this store is somewhere in the US north and if you do pick up a record from there you're fucked. Also, it might be a section with all the metal, pop, etc. where only black people buy from like in the old US south again. |

02.12.15 | How big is your town? If it's small the owner really doesn't have an incentive to supply less popular, more obscure bands/genres. These places are open to make money, and while it would be nice to find a place with a wide selection and variety, it's not worth them supplying such diversity if there's only 2 kids who stroll into their shop who are interested in Metal and their inventory sits on the shelf collecting dust. |

02.12.15 | I live in Germany. Alot of these things i listen to, don't really make it over to Europe.
People here are pretty lazy about having to listen to something not hitting the charts.
Stores just don't care what kinda music they are actually selling, either that, or they solely have the same old stuff in stores.
And shipping costs are insane.

02.12.15 | Stores are only a function of their environment. If there was a strong metal listening community where you are I'm sure their inventory would reflect that.
You could open the best Metal Record Shop in the world, and if it's located somewhere where few clients listen to Metal, chances are it will go under. I know it sucks not having a wide selection, but you can't blame them for not supplying lots of Metal if you're the only person strolling in looking for a 90's Gorguts album.
And even if they stocked Metal, how would you know they would even have the taste to stock the Metal you like? To have a successful record store with a wide range of genres, that would mean purchasing thousands of records from thousands of bands ranging from heavy metal, black metal, melo death, death metal, nu metal, speed metal, hair metal, metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, post hardcore, ect. That's a lot of music and certainly wouldn't be cheap to provide, especially if they're providing this plethora of music for only 3 people to glance at. |

02.12.15 | 2 is pretty fucked up tbh |

02.12.15 | gotta say I'm pretty lucky for record stores, in Paris there's about anything with usually a big
enough "Independant" section (wich encompasses all genres from Converge, AC to Nick Cave as long as
they're a bit more obscure than the also gigantic and spread out "pop rock" section), biggest gap
usually comes from the Hip-Hop section with all the shitty local french rappers and compils; for metal
it depends but usually there's Deathspell so you know they arent completely lost |

02.12.15 | I also live in Germany and yeah, the record stores suck. |

actually they're doing ok. in fact we just had another one open up. |

02.12.15 | black |
Shiranui
02.12.15 | Of course it all goes along with the charges of getting these beauties in your stock and it def wasn't
supposed to be read as a rant about music stores in general. Sure it depends on demand. While people
here are just lackluster in terms of musical originality, i still feel like people are just too much
unaware and/or indifferent on what's out there. |

02.12.15 | mine has no Drone section so im fkn pissed |

02.12.15 | a section called Black? dafuq?

02.12.15 | @DominionMM1
Just a poorly worded joke meaning that such a section looked to me like the segregation policy in places like Georgia in the '40s. |
VaderGator
02.12.15 | I've realized that anything I'm actually looking for doesn't have its own name card and is just thrown at the end of the letter mixed with everything else so it makes it almost impossible to find anything unless it's something really popular. |
DominionMM1
02.12.15 | man you guys have some shitty record stores |

02.13.15 | I'm from Germany too. There are few good record stores and mostly in the really bigger cities like Cologne, Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg I would reckon. What even pisses me off more though is the quality of the radio stations. Whenever you turn it on you hear the charts and obnoxious moderators. I end up listening to the documentary/news/discussion programs because it's the only thing that's bearable. At least in America/Canada you can listen to stuff like Hendrix, Soundgarden, AIC or Tool and so forth on alternative stations in every city, hell they even play Rush over there and the mods are relaxed and down to earth, something absolutely unbelievable in Europe. People over here just don't have any taste in music as it seems. The only ones who actually do are like 60 year-old kraut and prog rockers or jazz enthusiasts. Where in Germany are you from? the little Pitbull thing in the end made me laugh, haha. |
Phlegm
02.13.15 | i really wanna go to one of those ambient music stores in Japan |

02.13.15 | From the area around Stuttgart. Radio's shit, too. Got you there. Choose between Meghan Trainor and Jump. God dammit. |
