So actually, not the Paper Chase (womp womp), but their ringleader has a new(er) band
called John Congleton and the Nighty Night. I really like the Paper Chase, but haven't heard

Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?
These guys (and gal!) always put on a pretty great show. Excited for the new album, too,

Head Home
Opening for Murder by Death. Haven't heard much from them, but the titular Death
connection aside (which, if you're gonna start a band, might as well throw some mortality into the mix), Sputnik lists them as similar to Primus
and my man Tommy Waits, so that's

Just started getting into these fellas last year, and am regretting not doing so sooner. Saw

Coheadlining with Lucero, I'm surprised Bingham doesn't have more of a following on this site,
since he ranks up there with Sturgill Simpson and Justin Townes Earle (and, come to think of

Twin Forks
Opening for Lucero and Bingham, I'm actually the opposite of excited about this band. I really
don't have as much of a problem with Chris Carrabba as quite a few do (I was, and to a degree
still am, an apologist for some latter-day Dashboard). But this feels distinctly like an instance
of blatant bandwagon-hopping, and an insipid, uninspired stab at the genre, to boot. Maybe they'll put

Tell All Your Friends
Headlining a show at Ram's Head. I've seen them live a few times before, mostly at
festivals, and while there's always a good bit of energy, I always find myself feeling like a
curmudgeonly hipster, grumbling about how they should be playing more of their old stuff.
Which, hopefully with the original lineup (well, not really, but for all intents and purposes)
once again intact, they might. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. And Happiness Is...was...okay. | | 10 |  | letlive.
Fake History
Opening for TBS, and honestly the main reason I'm going to the show. Aside from their debut
EP, which I've yet to hear, I've uniformly loved everything this band has done--and can easily

On the Impossible Past
Also opening for TBS. And I'm also more excited to see them than the headliner. Rented
World was a slight step down for them, but when you're coming off the heels of something
this great, that's almost to be expected. Plus, it's still an amazingly fun listen, and should

The Mindsweep
Unquestionably the iffiest show on this list. I haven't really listened to anything by this group,
but a friend of mine wants to go and is a huge fan. Any recommended entry point would be

Opening for Shikari. These guys, I do know, and really enjoy, so they're a large part of why

Let Go
Yet another opener, but this one I only really know from the (slight) buzz around them on

Robot Hive/Exodus
Jumping ahead to May, these cats are coheadlining a show at Pier Six. After meaning to for
years, I finally saw them (like Lucero) at the Shindig last summer, and the whole time just
wished they had more time to work with. Wish: granted. | | 17 |  | Mastodon
Leviathan
The other coheadliner. Initially struck me as a sort of bizarre pairing, but makes more sense
the more I think about it, especially with Mastodon's more melodic leanings on the fantastic
Once More Round the Sun. Plus, Neil Fallon can finally do those guest vocals on "Blood and
Thunder" in real time, which could well be worth the price of admission by itself. Now if only

Lights Out
Opening for Clutch and Mastodon. Don't really know them, but any mutual friend of the two
