Upcoming Concerts

A list of band coming to the Baltimore neck of the woods that I hope to see, mostly rthroughout March. And then, I sleep through April. A few of these acts I'm runfamiliar with, which I'll note in the descriptions, so recs on a good place to start rare absolutely welcome.
1Cursive
The Ugly Organ

Since it's always best to start with a lie, these guys are actually going to be in D.C. Just picked up the anniversary edition of this album. I
don't think they're playing it cover to cover or anything, but still pretty pumped to see these guys, since I never managed to back in the day.
2Beach Slang
Cheap Thrills On A Dead End Street

Opening for Cursive. Don't really know anything by them, so rec away.
3The Paper Chase
Now You Are One of Us

So actually, not the Paper Chase (womp womp), but their ringleader has a new(er) band
called John Congleton and the Nighty Night. I really like the Paper Chase, but haven't heard
anything from these cats. Could be cool, though.
4Murder by Death
Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?

These guys (and gal!) always put on a pretty great show. Excited for the new album, too,
since they're amazingly consistent in-studio, as well. Loves me some country-fried cello.
5 O'Death
Head Home

Opening for Murder by Death. Haven't heard much from them, but the titular Death
connection aside (which, if you're gonna start a band, might as well throw some mortality into the mix), Sputnik lists them as similar to Primus
and my man Tommy Waits, so that's
reassuring. Recs welcome.
6Lucero
Tennessee

Just started getting into these fellas last year, and am regretting not doing so sooner. Saw
them at the Shindig festival this past summer, which was great, but by necessity a shorter set.
7Ryan Bingham
Mescalito

Coheadlining with Lucero, I'm surprised Bingham doesn't have more of a following on this site,
since he ranks up there with Sturgill Simpson and Justin Townes Earle (and, come to think of
it, Steve Earle) in terms of superior modern country. Plus, Crazy Heart. Come on now.
8Twin Forks
Twin Forks

Opening for Lucero and Bingham, I'm actually the opposite of excited about this band. I really
don't have as much of a problem with Chris Carrabba as quite a few do (I was, and to a degree
still am, an apologist for some latter-day Dashboard). But this feels distinctly like an instance
of blatant bandwagon-hopping, and an insipid, uninspired stab at the genre, to boot. Maybe they'll put
on a great show and convert me. But somehow I doubt it.
9Taking Back Sunday
Tell All Your Friends

Headlining a show at Ram's Head. I've seen them live a few times before, mostly at
festivals, and while there's always a good bit of energy, I always find myself feeling like a
curmudgeonly hipster, grumbling about how they should be playing more of their old stuff.
Which, hopefully with the original lineup (well, not really, but for all intents and purposes)
once again intact, they might. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. And Happiness Is...was...okay.
10letlive.
Fake History

Opening for TBS, and honestly the main reason I'm going to the show. Aside from their debut
EP, which I've yet to hear, I've uniformly loved everything this band has done--and can easily
imagine them putting on a hell of a show.
11The Menzingers
On the Impossible Past

Also opening for TBS. And I'm also more excited to see them than the headliner. Rented
World was a slight step down for them, but when you're coming off the heels of something
this great, that's almost to be expected. Plus, it's still an amazingly fun listen, and should
translate well to a live setting.
12Enter Shikari
The Mindsweep

Unquestionably the iffiest show on this list. I haven't really listened to anything by this group,
but a friend of mine wants to go and is a huge fan. Any recommended entry point would be
great.
13A Lot Like Birds
No Place

Opening for Shikari. These guys, I do know, and really enjoy, so they're a large part of why
I'm considering going.
14I the Mighty
Satori

Also opening--and also a band I know and like (though not nearly as much as a Lot Like Birds).
15Hundredth
Let Go

Yet another opener, but this one I only really know from the (slight) buzz around them on
Sputnik. Recs, as always, welcome.
16Clutch
Robot Hive/Exodus

Jumping ahead to May, these cats are coheadlining a show at Pier Six. After meaning to for
years, I finally saw them (like Lucero) at the Shindig last summer, and the whole time just
wished they had more time to work with. Wish: granted.
17Mastodon
Leviathan

The other coheadliner. Initially struck me as a sort of bizarre pairing, but makes more sense
the more I think about it, especially with Mastodon's more melodic leanings on the fantastic
Once More Round the Sun. Plus, Neil Fallon can finally do those guest vocals on "Blood and
Thunder" in real time, which could well be worth the price of admission by itself. Now if only
Scott Kelly would turn up...
18Graveyard
Lights Out

Opening for Clutch and Mastodon. Don't really know them, but any mutual friend of the two
bands above is ripe to be a mutual friend of mine.
19Tool
Undertow

Nah, just kidding. Would be amazing, though. On my bucket list for sure.
