2014 Albums That Just, No

My least favourite albums this year. Whoop.
10Pianos Become The Teeth
Keep You

I don't want to be too hard on this, because I actually enjoy a good chunk of the
instrumentation on this, but overall, for me at least, this album was just too
sluggish for me. Also, his voice. No. I can't. With these lyrics I get nightmares from
this.
9The Antlers
Familiars

Sad, sad music for sad, sad peeps. Normally this would be the part where I say
that the compositions would be good, but to me, this just seems like a really lazy
try to sound as nostalgic as possible. Next.
8Shabazz Palaces
Lese Majesty

I have a weird relationship with Ishmael Butler. I was never that big of a fan of his,
especially during his Digable Planets time. But when Black Up came out, I was really
awstruck. An amazing album front to back, so my hopes for this were ridiculously
high. But nope, this was just incredibly unfocused, scatterbrained and even more
cryptic than the last one. And this wouldn't be a problem to me if I felt like I would
be gaining anything from looking into the lyrics. Which did not happen here. Sad.

It's Album Time

Let me make it clear. I hate forced nostalgia. Extremely. Especially in music. I
mean, if you can make nostalgic music by updating an old sound with newer
methods, I will most likely jam to it, but if you give me an album that sounds
exactly like a disco-album from the seventies with better production values and
electronic tweaks, I will just glare at you in disbelief.
6Chevelle
La Gargola

People still care about Chevelle? No, let me start again. You know, I like Chevelle.
Until This Type Of Thinking, they were one of my favourite bands. But ever since
Vena Sera came out, I just wasn't feeling most of their music anymore. This album
is no different. Also, I don't find their songwriting on this particularly impressive.
Sorry.
5The Hotelier
Home, Like NoPlace Is There

Basically the same as number 10, but I dislike the instrumentation on here more,
because it all just sounds so stale to me. Also, these lyrics. I don't get it. I heard
much better work from any given bedroom-artist on Bandcamp this year
4Eminem
Shady XV

Shut up Marshall. Shut up. I don't have the power to put up with your bullshit any
more. Start writing interesting lyrics again, or at least have some actually good
punchlines. Or deflate your ego a bit. Either way is fine. But if this stays on this
level, shut up.
3Buckethead
Our Selves

This stands as a representative of most albums Buckethead put out this year. Take
a break, man. Take your time. Compose something again. Think about what you
play. Stop ripping off your fans so much. Thank you.
2OG Maco
Give Em Hell

Read my review.
1YG
My Krazy Life

I wanted to give this segment here the special rage treatment. But it is not worth
it. Let me try it another way. Mustard, stop producing these lazy beats that all
sound the same, or start using better synths than overblown bass and squealing
pads that make me feel like I'm shoveling cheap gummybears in my mouth. I can't
cope with this any more. And YG. You are not a good lyricist. I don't know who told
you this. You are reciting the same old shit, with even more crappy lines than Maco
and Sean combined, and try to sell this to us as something brand new. Shut your
mouth and stop writing lyrics, just stop it. And to most of you celebrating this
album, why? What can you find on this album that hasn't been done better million
times before? I'm done with this.
