12.12.14 | A Wild Sheep Chase is probably my favourite Murakami. And I've read about 8 of his now... actually reading
Kafka on the Shore by him at the moment. Next is My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk, then probably I Am a Cat by
Soseki. Thank god for winter break |
demigod!
12.12.14 | trying to get myself to read more so i picked up 1984 cuz it's widely considered a classic. about 2/3rds of the way through and it's really great. rather prophetic too but i wont beat that dead horse.
afterwards im gonna read either catch 22 or hitchikers guide to the galaxy (the first one), have had them both laying around for a long time |

ZombicidalMan
12.12.14 | @demi, read hitchiker's guide, it's a super fast read but it's still one of my favourite books |
demigod!
12.12.14 | yeah i heard it's a good one, plus id like something a bit more light hearted after 1984 |

12.12.14 | 1984 is the best book ive read by far
recently i read Mystic River, was pretty good, good character development and plot, the movie was shit though.
recently read the Hannibal series, those books are fuckin awesome and i would recommend them even if you have seen the movie because the plot is entirely different, changes the entire meaning of the story.
Think and Grow Rich is a good self-help book i recently read.
shit load of poker books, not gonna name em cuz i dont think anyone here is intereested
auto repair books
various history books, right now reading The Last Lion biographies of Winston Churchill, before that read Ike, these are classic books but you have to be pretty into history and ww2

JohnTheSavage
12.12.14 | Ha I'm reading A Wild Sheep Chase too. It's the first one I've read by him but I've been meaning to get into him for three years now. It's about as good as I expected it to be.
I read all the time when I was a kid. Then when I got to high school I really slowed down. Whenever I become a total slacker in school or have no academics in my life (such as summer job) I read all the time again. (currently freshman in college.) |
TomTomTomato
12.12.14 | read 1q84, fav book (that's a q not a 9) |

12.12.14 | In my life I've read 50 cents biography, the two towers, war of the worlds, and a shit load of goosebumps hahahaha |
ZombicidalMan
12.12.14 | ichikyuuhachiyo! I actually haven't read that one yet. I'm going chronologically with Murakami so it's next, then I'll read Colourless Tsukuru.
What I like about A Wild Sheep Chase is that it has all the zany mystery of The Wind Up Bird Chronicle and Hard-Boiled Wonderland, but it has better characters and ties things off fairly well. Wind Up and Hard-Boiled kind of just forget about certain characters and events and end abruptly. |
Mort.
12.12.14 | last good book i read was For Whom the Bell Tolls. i guess read it if you havent. Hemingways other books are all pretty good aswell

12.12.14 | If anyone has the teensiest interest in graphic novels, I recommend spending some time with Alan Moore. "From Hell" is a delight. So is "Watchmen". And "V for Vendetta". And pretty much all of his work. Even his child porn.
Ok. So, it's not really child porn. |

12.12.14 | Nothing like a little Thus Spake Zarathustra to make you feel great about the existential experience of man. |

12.12.14 | TalonsOfFire, if you thought page one was difficult, just wait 'til you get to page 2. And then page 3. Oh, Jesus tap-dancin' Christ, page 3!
Give Child of God a good ol' college try. It's far more straight forward, less Faulknerian, and just as depressing. |
ZombicidalMan
12.12.14 | I enjoyed Blood Meridian, but for whatever reason I could always put it down and come back later |
Gameofmetal
12.12.14 | Trying to wrap up the last book of the Malazan Book of The Fallen series, The Crippled God
over 10,000 pages of material, it's taken me over a year to read probably |

12.12.14 | Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio - Mike Senior; so I can make my music sound beautiful.
Sophie's World - Jostein Gardner; so I can fall under this category "so many readers i know are just insufferable cunts who think theyre philosophers" |
CoolCalmJoe
12.12.14 | Flow My Tear, the Policeman Said was pretty good too |
JohnTheSavage
12.12.14 | I love Screwtape. When I read it I think of it as a great work of humanism couched in a Christian framework, but everyone else seems to think of it as a cynical and intolerant attack on atheists. |
WeepingBanana
12.12.14 | in the middle of Bleeding Edge right now. it's okay but i feel like takin it real slow for some reason |
ronburgandy
12.12.14 | in the middle of "A Canticle for Leibowitz" right now -- it's been pretty great so far
might read Murakami's new book over break. i've really liked all 3 i've read by him (wind-up bird, wild sheep, hardboiled wonderland). apparently this new one's a pretty quick read also |
YoYoMancuso
12.12.14 | Savage I'm at around chapter 12 right now, I love how brisk the pace is and how unapologetic Lewis is about his writing. As he said himself, the truth you believe will always make its way into the fruits your labor. |
Onirium
12.12.14 | I've been into Kerouac for a while, he's just brilliant. I just finished On the Road and started Desolation Angels, and he definitely has one of the most authentic and beautiful styles I know.
Apart from that, I really love Kafka, Philip K. Dick, Lovecraft, Murakami, Allen Ginsberg, Orwell (his essays are also extremely interesting if you liked 1984 and Animal Farm) |
JoylessBastard
12.12.14 | Currently reading as much Isaac Asimov as I can get my hands on. |
ChoccyPhilly
12.12.14 | I've been reading a lot of short stories recently, like Children of the Corn because I get way too into a book and it like takes over my life until I finish reading it. |

12.12.14 | If you're at all interested in Sci-fi short stories I would strongly recommend Asimov. |
ZombicidalMan
12.12.14 | I still gotta read Roadside Picnic |

12.12.14 | I'm reading the gods themselves by asimov atm, tis pretty dope so far |
ChilledOutEntertaina
12.12.14 | Dick, Asimov, and the dude who wrote the Neuromancer- all of it is such stellar sci-fi. Or rather, such interstellar sci-fi. Heh heh.
And Margaret Atwood is quite dope as well. |

@ listmaker nice choice on American Gods, book is fucking amazing and the rest of his work is just as good. Read Blood Meridian recently as well and I'm just reading the Stand
I would highly recommend to anyone that loves reading and good books The Secret History by Donna Tartt, it's a classic that gets way overlooked |
Onirium
12.13.14 | Lovecraft is brilliant agreed. It's amazing how troubling some of his stuff can be, and how well written it
is. The man really knew what horror literature is all about |

12.13.14 | @gameofmetal Yea it was pretty good, kind of had to get past the guys writing style the first couple chapters but its been mad entertaining this far. The epic fight at the end lf the second book vs bane n zannah n a bunch of jedis was epic as fuck. |
