Similar to Ought, these guys burst out of the gate this year by paying homage to classics of
their genres, in this case shoegaze, while adding enough vitality and new elements to breath
some fresh life into an entire genre.

Post-Metal with lyrics about incredibly interesting works of art, vocals that match the intensity
and urgency of the songs, and incredible post rock sections that build into crazy good metal
climaxes? Consider me sold.

More Than Any Other Day
Those first three songs are some of the strongest pieces of fun and epic post-punk that take
roots in the classics of the genre while still sounding remarkably new and fresh.

Never Hungover Again
My love for pop punk may be slowly fading away, but no one this year did a better sing along
summer punk album than Joyce Manor. With a far more diverse set of songs that are all
memorable and insanely catchy, Never Hungover Again has easily been my most listened to
album of the year and displayed some maturity and strengthening of an already solid band to
boot!

I Forget Where We Were
While not really giving his debut any attention, Ben Howard's sophomore album creates a
beautiful atmosphere through a fantatic combination of spacey guitar work and a haunting
vocal performance.

Holy Vacants
Never liked (and still don't) most of their earlier works, but this one drew me in and hooked
me with its story, insanely awesome and all over the place vocals, and superb instrumentation
that served and elevated the strong sense of purpose Trophy Scars clearly desired to display
with Holy Vacants.

The Unnatural World
Despite being nothing like the monumental Deathconsciousness, The Unnatural World cements
Have a Nice Life as a band who knows how to make groovy, gloomy and ethereal post punk
tracks carry just as much weight and importance as those on their more ambitious debut, just
in a far more digestible package.

The Hotelier have crafted pop punk/emo's most important album in quite some time while by
crafting a diverse and cathartic album that flows perfectly and manages to pack in catchy
hooks and energy while still displaying moments of Mineral-worshiping emotional explosions.

My album of the year since the first time I heard it, Dark Arc takes elements of all my
favorite kinds of music into a perfect blend of folk, emo, indie and more that always leaves
me with a smile on my face.

Wil Wagner's amazing lyrics have always been what drew me into Smith Street's orbit as a
devout worshiper, and on Throw Me in the River the rest of the band clicks into place to create
