11.23.14 | Some bands that randomly came to mind:
Ved Buens Ende
Limbonic Art
Thorns
YUREI
Stagnant Waters
Transcending Bizarre |
SaneTBP
11.23.14 | Murmuure
although it's not purely black metal, it's more "avant-garde" than most metal that is called so. also it's amazing |
grish
11.23.14 | i'm not actually familiar with any of these albums, but when i read 'avante-garde black metal' the first band i thought of was Peste Noire, you might check them out |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Also familiar with all of those aside from Yurei and Stagnant Waters, I'll check those two out right now. Good recs though (from the ones I know). |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Grish - I dig Peste Noire but that's definitely a fair bit different from the stuff listed here. |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Sane - Murmuure is real cool too, I have their one album and I love it. |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Oh and also, inb4 Dodheimsgard. |

11.23.14 | Also:
Oranssi Pazuzu
Raven Throne |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Voivod - I dig Stagnant Waters a lot, definitely felt the Zweizz presence immediately on that. Wasn't crazy about Yurei though. I tried Oranssi Pazuzu last year and couldn't get into it - I seemed to be the only one not digging it though so I'll give them another shot now that I'm in the mood for this sort of stuff. |
Voivod
11.23.14 | which yurei album did you listen to? The first one is awesome, the second is merely decent prog rock worship |
JasonCarne
11.23.14 | Whoops, turns out there is another band named Yurei I came across when google searching, just checked out a tune from Working Class Demon and it's definitely real cool. |

11.23.14 | Also [n-1]:
Try out:
Skaphe
Goetic Equivalent |
Keyblade
11.23.14 | Thy Catafalque - Tudo Ido Tarlat
Njiqahdda - Serpents in the Sky
Nocte Obducta - Nektar: Teil 1 & 2
In the Woods... - Heart of Ages |
Keyblade
11.23.14 | Couple of good ones I forgot
Peccatum - Lost in Reverie
Ved Buens Ende - Written In Waters |
xenocide.
11.23.14 | Can't help much, you're probably looking for a bit more avant-garde bm than I consider to be avant-garde (DsO, Blut Aus Nord and so on). Just wanted to tell that it's nice to see an unknown band from my homeland on your list (Asgaard). |
Thane
11.23.14 | mamaleek |
Dickens44
11.23.14 | I absolutely second Mamaleek, but also look into these great outsider black metal bands
Urfaust
Circle Of Ouroborus
Furze
|
bakkermaarten007
11.23.14 | I think Dornenreich fits that shoe perfectly: try their album 'Her Von Welken Nächten' |
Artuma
11.23.14 | gnaw their tongues but you probably have heard them already |
JohnnyoftheWell
11.23.14 | Lmao there's a band called Urfaust. |
Artuma
11.23.14 | kayo dot black metal? no way |
JohnnyoftheWell
11.23.14 | "Your denial of it being black metal only proves its avant-garde quality even more."
That's bullshit, agreed with the rest. |
mkamrass
11.23.14 | DIAPSIQUIR. The band deserves so much more attention than they get.
|
TheSonomaDude
11.23.14 | Check out Myrimin and Svaty Vincent. |
Grimlin
11.23.14 | Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_CG5fUE3po |
TalonsOfFire
11.23.14 | Thantifaxath - Sacred White Noise |
porcupinetheater
11.23.14 | Mirrorthrone and Le Grand Guignol seems to fit the description that you're looking for, at least. Although I'd argue that "avant-garde" bm could be taken in several different ways - there's also the Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Dodecahedron more chaotic dissonant area, the more atmospheric experimentation of stuff like Dornenreich, or Nocte Obducta |
Royl123
11.23.14 | Lulu by Metallica |
JasonCarne
11.24.14 | Porcupine, I forgot all about Mirrorthrone, they were pretty sweet.
I realize avant-garde could mean a few different things - but from my list and first comment it should have been fairly obvious I think that I was looking for something more like Arcturus and less like Blut Aus Nord, they are two totally different styles.
Anyway, half of these recs I've heard, the other half I'll have to check out tonight and over the next few days, thanks everyone. |
