10.24.14 | Dookie's among my list of favorite albums, it's a seminal album in 1990's alternative rock/punk music for me. If I ranked it, however, it would've come out a lot different. For example, Chump, Pulling Teeth and F.O.D. should be a lot higher, while In The End and Coming Clean should've been placed a couple of spots below. Your Top 5 is probably mine too, only in a different order. |

10.24.14 | Top 5 is spot on correct |

I never liked it that much. Maybe just cause I was born in '94 and therefore didn't witness the whole pop punk thing. But I always thought there were many bands that did a better job in that genre after GD's 90's stuff.
Chump is the only one that really is cemented at that lost spot. Never liked it. Everything between 9 and 13 is pretty much interchangeable though, don't give too much about any of these tracks. |

I never liked it both lyrically and sonically. I generally have a little problem with Dookie's lyrics, some of them more, some less. And musically it's pretty boring, only showing again that they aren't really good, when aiming for a harder sound. |

10.25.14 | When I was younger I thought Dookie and American Idiot was the best, now i think it's 1. Insomniac 2. American Idiot 3. Dookie. All three are classics imo though. |
KrazyKris
10.25.14 | Really can't work with Insomniac, it's like one big monotonous song except for Armatage Shanks and Walking Contradiction. Everything else melts together to some lazy riffs and indistinguishable mumbling of BJA |

10.25.14 | haven't we already elaborated that we're heading into completely different directions when it comes to GD? |
Artuma
10.25.14 | i don't think so because i never visit the gd threads but we can elaborate it now |
KrazyKris
10.25.14 | Well, you already weren't happy with Kerplunk on my overrated list, so I guess I somehow know what you like about them. What I don't know is, if there's any nostalgia involved for you, cause that would have nothing to do with the musical quality.
For me it's just that they sound unbelievably lazy and out of place whenever they try to sound like a punk band. I mean, Dookie isn't really a punk record and Insomniac seems like such a poor attempt to make a heavier album. I like their later efforts more because they're far more diverse and not all about how bored and fucked up they are as teenagers. Out of those AI is definitely the most ambitious and best executed. |

I think you have to do some relistening. Armatage Shanks isn't even one of Insomniac's best songs. Insomniac is great because it's so ridiculously simple yet so catchy and energetic. 86, Bab's Uvula Who, Jaded, Geek Stink Breath and Stuart And The Ave are all great songs. |
Artuma
10.25.14 | i don't have any gd nostalgia, also kerplunk is the only good gd i've heard. the more raw punk style suits them a lot better than the pop rock of their later albums |
danielcardoso
10.25.14 | For me, nostalgia plays a great factor when I'm listening to Green Day, but even if it didn't, Green Day is better as a straightforward punk band than as a generic radio rock/political band. That's easy to see, I mean, American Idiot was an awesome album but 21st Century Breakdown in comparison is far worse. Also, how can you not dig Kerplunk, Kris? |

86 and Jaded are pretty good, the rest is meh. Merely can tell the difference between them. Geek Stink Breath is particularly ridiculous though. And to me it's isn't energetic and even less catchy.
Also, GD was never a straightforward punk band. Come on, if I think of punk then that's Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, maybe early Offspring. GD is pop punk and they were good at that, because Armstrong knows how to write catchy hooks and he did it on Kerplunk, Dookie and Nimrod. But they were never as energetic as a punk band should be, even more so as their lyrics are everything but energetic or powerful (on Dookie it's the exact opposite).
Looking at their later work at least Warning seems underrated. It has so many catchy hooks, is both more fun and more mature than Insomniac and and has much more to offer sonically, even if it is a bit monotonous on the whole.
Kerplunk has some jams in the first half, but at some point it just gets less interesting with every track and the Sweet Children EP is just ridiculously crappy produced |

Warning does receive some unwarranted hate sometimes. It's got some great tracks, such as Waiting, Minority, Macy's Day Parade and Castaway, and Billie's step up in songwriting was amazing, but it's a notch below Green Day's past stuff. As for Kerplunk, I haven't checked out Sweet Children EP besides My Generation, but if you only consider Kerplunk's songs from its original version it's a pretty solid album. Some of its songs are Green Day's best, and it was an album that helped define 1990's underground punk music in a great way. |

don't know why, but I never liked the cover art
@daniel
Definitely forgot Blood, Sex & Booze. The only two I don't really like are Church On Sunday and Jackass.
For Kerplunk the only tracks that made a lasting impression are the first four. It starts off really good, but it loses me so damn fast. Except for Words I Might Have Ate there isn't anything else I would say I like (I know everyone points to Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, but I think its nothing special). All in all it just seems so damn average. And there's Dominated Love Slave, which would be bad even as a Bloodhound Gang track.
Never got why people seem to like it more than Offspring's Ignition that came out the same year.
