10.12.14 | Yeah, that's how the show should have been from the beginning, with a little more easter eggs from the comics. I mean, I like that they changed some elements of the storyline so that people could enjoy both the show and the comics, but sometimes their changes are a little unnecessary. In the comics, the best stuff happens mostly after the prison is overrun, which seems to coincide with the quality of the show too. So yeah, season 5 could be excellent if they continue like this.
I imagine Kirkman already has an ending planned for the comics (and the show as well), so I guess it's probably going to work out in the end |

But one of the directors denied this and also one of the very few things Negan does not condone in the comics is rape so it wouldnt really make sense unless they were changing Negans entire moral code in the show. But either way I believe that guy is gonna be the season big bad villain whoever he is supposed to be.

there is one potential ending where they wouldn't have to deviate to far from the comics without having to drag it out. and then they could end on a high note. all they need to do is play around with some of the new characters and storylines that happen after the governer for the rest of this season and build it up to introducing Negan as a villain in the season finale. Then they would do a season long 'all out war' run against Negan and end the show how the aftermath of the same storyline in the comics ends. It resolves nicely but is open ended enough to know that certainly the zombie issue aint going away. thats all i'll say about that but its really a perfect place to end without suffering from the same lull that the comics have since the Negan storyline ended. |

i was expecting this ^ spent a large part of Season 4 building up the place. very surprised they got it over with so quickly. they showed a bit of back story for the Terminus people - maybe 2 minutes worth in flashbacks? i was expecting the escape from Terminus to slowly develop and take a decent chunk of the first half of the season and for a major character to die there.
almost certain that Gareth guy from Terminus will be back somewhere down the line. they showed him get shot but unlikely it was fatal. then when Rick suggests to use the rifles to pick off the survivors, Carol appeared and they left for Tyrese and the baby.
a few flaws you could pick at it but it was very entertaining.
there were a few things i didn't pick up on too - Morgan showing up after the credits I totally missed. and also that the guy with tats on his face that Glenn, Rick, Daryl and Bob let out of the carriage as they're escaping is the same guy from the Terminus flashback. |

and yeah as for the them all turning to zombies for eating him if he was bitten that would be a major plot hole considering they all already carry the disease and its outright said that its just the bite that gives you fever and kills you. no matter how you die you will come back as a zombie in walking dead world.
also, i was afraid of this but seems like the show went back to that boring walking around looking at things and having really slow dragged out pointless conversations again. really the only interesting part of the episode was the last 10 minutes. |

11.04.14 | @GameofMetal Last week was a fucking great episode, just as the first two actually. The rendition of the Hunters story arc from the comics was excellent: bloody, troubling and most of all they didn't make it last 8 episodes like they did with some of the arcs before.
The machete thing and all the slaughter that followed was one of the most shocking moments of the show so far for me, even more than the "look at the flowers" thing. And everyone's silent reaction after they realized what they had just done, great acting.
And yeah, yesterday's episode was pretty cool too, just kind of a let down imo after that hell of a beginning. The guy hiding in the bushes with Daryl could definitely be Noah |

@dev i haven't really payed much to where they are in the comics but if my memory serves me correctly alexandria and the other communities are all relatively near a large city which very well could be Atlanta.
also my bets are that its Noah that Daryl was with. It wouldn't be Morgan, he was coming from Terminus, it makes a lot more sense with the timing of Noah escaping and Carol coming into the hospital and that Daryl and Carol were together that Daryl and Carol found Noah. Noah was in no condition to stick around and help and probably told them all about the hospital and how it works. So Daryl and Carol realize if they fake Carol getting fucked up they will bring her in because she looks like a weakly woman whereas Daryl looks like he could fuck shit up so the cops would have killed him or left him for dead. So they set Carol up to infiltrate and Daryl brings Noah to safety leaving Carol to do some serious rapage and save Beth. |

not a fan of waiting weeks for each group's plots. it's not completely chronological right now if Noah was with Daryl, which is likely. so this episode's events probably happened while Rick etc were dealing with the cannibals. but still, not that keen on the isolated focus on one group, while you wait a week or two for the others. even more noticeable as they're split into three. next week seems to be Abraham's.
aside from maybe Rick, can't think of a character on the show that's developed better than Carol. gradually over 4 and a bit seasons, from the battered wife to a badass who saves the group. and she's one of the better actors, so would be a shame if she goes soon. |

i thought it was just ok, but liked the part where they came out of the hospital and for the shock on the senses of their eyes adjusting from the darkness, they had the really washed out kinda shots and the high frequency/altered sound. |

Seems to me you have some pretty elective attention. This thread is over 400 comments long and you've been in it talking to me pretty much the whole time and we've discussed how much I've enjoyed a lot of the character development and how they have created likeable personalities out of a bunch of very hatable characters. There are few survivors at this point that I don't like to one degree or another however most of them used to be awful. And I'm not sure I'd say me commenting that I'm glad I kept watching through the first 4 and half inconsistent series that ranged from terrible to kind of decent to see it improve so much in the later half of season 4 onwards would count as me saying all the seasons are terrible. so this sounds more like a 'you' issue to me.

If Daryl died right now it would suck but would feel out of place. If tyreese, beth, or sasha died no one would care, would just be another second tier character biting the dust. If Carol dies not only will all the attention she's gotten since the prison be as impactful as possible but we would actually be losing a character audiences care about which brings the feels. Some people will be pissed (the type of viewers who hate Game of Thrones for the Red Wedding etc) but viewers like myself would gain respect for the show for having the balls to kill a great character when there time has come. |

As for episode 10, Aaron's arrival didn't leave as much effect on me as it did in the comics, where it actually makes up for a quite funny moment. Anyways, I was waiting for him to say "we are the walking dead" ever since the prison as it is in the comics, but I think it actually makes even more sense in the current context. |

he's implying it was rushed in the context of his development on the show not just his death in the episode, obviously. and i agree with him. it came out of nowhere and seemed really premature, unnecessary, and avoidable. it was pretty stupid, and as far as 'creative and adventurous' maybe they havent done something like that on the show before but the 'seeing the light' and hallucinating all the important people and coming to terms with things death is a pretty common trope on screen and having 30 straight mintues of it was a little overkill.

02.18.15 | she's not stereotypically misunderstood at all. if anything at the beginning she was a trope of weak stay at home woman with abusive partner and then she came into her own. and when she killed tyrese's bae no one knew for a long time and the only one that tripped about it was rick (which is retarded cuz he has done just as shady shit time and time again). and he apologized to her and could see her side. tyrese forgave her and everyone else like immediately forgot about it or didnt give a fuck and everyone loves her.
also rick made absolutely terrible decisions at every turn for literally the first 3 and a half seasons straight and is about to make a bunch more. his like 2 good decisions over the course of half of season 4 and 5 hardly make up for that. and his acting quirks are irritating and shallow imo. at least he's better than shane.
agree daryl is stereotyped but almost everyone on the show is a walking trope (pun intended) anyways and at least he's kinda badass. glenn was great when he was funny and carefree and now he's just been an annoying twat for 4 seasons. michonne is dope. carl got passable recently. everyone else i could care less about. the only way they will ever get some emotion out of me is if they kill carol, daryl, or michonne. |

02.18.15 | sounds like we disagree regarding walking dead but agree on got, potsy. i might have been overly harsh on carol, something about her just seems fake and forced to me. rick made bad decisions no doubt, but i think he makes a lot of correct decisions, like when he opts to go back and kill all the termites. he's become ruthless and uncompromising, which is necessary in an apocalypse. tyrese and others seem so incredibly naive when it comes time to making the big decisions. i can't speak for what he does from here on out though because i haven't read the graphic novels. i guess he has his quirks (he's always pausing for long periods of time between words, hand always by his pistol, etc) that makes him seem somewhat gimmicky, but when he loses it he seems like he's not even on set. like if the director were to yell 'cut' he'd say 'there is no 'cut'; this is the way the world is now!'
i also liked shane a lot. like, guy was a huge douchebag, but he played his role very well and convincingly imo. i sometimes found myself agreeing with him when it came time to make the difficult decisions (except for shit like killing that farmer for no apparent reason, that shit was straight up retarded). |

@Gyro Fear isn't uninteresting; in fact it easily tops in my opinion most apocalypse outbreak movies, but the major problem is the characters. While the idea of the dysfunctional family could have been a great plot device, after three episodes I still feel completely apathetic to every character but one or two. Because, well, one or two actually have somewhat interesting personalities. its decent. i prefer the structure of FtWD to TWD tbh. its not as formulaic, revolving around ~35 minutes of build up, meandering character development, and mumbly ambiguous dialogue before 5 minutes of action resulting in a cliff-hanger every week. it does a much better job at pacing itself and spreading the interesting events across each episode and doen't bank on those gimmicks like cliff-hangers. Walking Dead in general has always had problems making interesting characters and developing them in a way that makes them appeal to your sympathies so its not surprising to say that there are a good handful of cattle-fodder characters in FtWD as well, but by the end of the season you are invested a lot more in some of the characters you thought u never would be. the dialogue is much better than TWD but like onirium said it still gets cheesy sometimes. and tbh the one heroin addict kid is a leagues better actor than anyone else in the entire original walking dead series lol (not that theres a tonne of tough competition). Its a different vibe and a different structure which is refreshing, and the season finale is pretty damn awesome. |

yes. rick gets better because he turns into a fucking psycho with no moral compass and just murders everyone all the time like a boss and carl becomes less of a little angsty bitch too. tyreese's story arch is quite satisfying in s5 and glenn spotlights one of the best episodes in the entire series. also, if the show stays at all true to the comics in regards to glenn u should especially keep watching. glenn is in for a real big treat pretty soon. the hot latina chick rosita becomes a more central character so u get to look at her a lot more and carol is badass as fuck as per usual for most of s5.
s5 and s6 so far are pretty similar in terms of execution as the first 4 seasons, the show sticks to its same formula, but they are doing a much better job of it now. most of the insufferable characters are either dead or less insufferable now. and there have been no lows as bad as some of the farm and prison shit in s2 and s3. i'd say its been at its best since the last quarter of s4. |

As you said they made it pretty obvious for us to doubt, if not to be sure that Glenn wasn't the one who got eaten - his expression didn't really look like one of pain, although that could just have been a bad acting choice. But if anything Yeun is one of the better actors the show has.
They're not killing off Rick yet, but still, he really hasn't been interesting and significant in a while even if the show wants us to think otherwise. His mental state basically turns in an endless cycle between "overly susceptible and downright unpleasant" to "close to madness" since the second half of season 4. It was interesting back then, and the character certainly has the potential for greater psychological depth. So yeah I don't want him to die; I wouldn't see how they adapt comics material without him leading. He might turn out to be significant again, but his role has been questionable lately |

also this ep was better than the last like 5 lol. but they are being super blatant about their set-ups
the only reason enid left alexandria was so that she could be the one to help glenn and the only reason they wanted her to be the one to help glenn is because maggie is pregnant and enid an orphan girl and they wanted to show us how great of a father figure he would be if he survived long enough to be a dad. they think that will make his death at the hands of negan before he could ever raise his child more effective and sympathetic.
so pretty much confirmed that glenn is gonna be the one taking the bat
and then with douchey other kid whatever his name is getting trained with the gun its been obvious ever since he first asked that in the show he is going to be the one to take carls eye out. in the comics carl gets shot in the face and loses his eye and pretty much half his skull, i think it was by some saviours i dont really remember. in the show the same thing is gonna happen but that kid is gonna shoot carl. the set up in this ep was especially obvious, the whole part about raising ur gun all the way to ur eye before u fire or ull miss. he doesnt know how to shoot yet and he's gonna panic and shoot too soon and miss thus missing and severely fucking up carls face but not killing him. oh and abraham is gonna die when they go help dwight and rosita and eugene are gonna end up bangin'. |

I saw Abraham coming cause of the whole “taking it like a champ” thing but the show made you think all was said and done, a little Daryl death tease, and then I loved how nonchalantly Negan just turned around and was “welp, here’s another one!” and beat the shit out of Glenn. Caught me off guard.
Great stuff, awesome premiere even though it should have been at the end of the finale for added impact but whatever. Andrew Lincoln was also on point throughout, dude was terrified as fuck. Psyched for this season. |

10.24.16 | I guess it wasn't quite the right word. Really I just think he's a poorly written character and has been since day one when they shoehorned him in. So he's a handy survivalist until they have to get to a plot device set in motion by a character that they sidelined for more Daryl time, and rather than rewrite the plotline, they have him behave out of character and do some stupid shit that goes against how he's usually written. He's poorly implemented regularly (like tonight).
Good on the writer's for turning the expected into the unexpected and then doing it, but the way they got there was just another instance in a long string of bad character writing. |
