| R.i.p. Chimaira
One of my favorite bands from back in my high school days has sadly
broken up. While it is very saddening, I think it was time to put the beast
out of its misery. With so many lineup changes, and with Mark being the
last original member standing, I believe this needed to happen. Anyway, I
thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and rank the discography of a
band that, while I may not like them as much nowadays, I truly held close

Crown of Phantoms
This is easily their weakest album in my opinion. While there are a few good and
brutal songs, such "I Despise" and "The Machine", it just seems uninspired. But I'm
taking this with a grain of salt, and giving credit where credit is due. This is the
concluding effort of the band, and it was also made without the creative input of Rob,
Matt, Spicuzza, or Andols. Poor Mark was left holding the bag, and I must say I think
he did a pretty good job. It was clear that the band meant a lot to him, and I have
tremendous respect for the guy. Anyway, some people really liked this album. But for
me, I'd call it somewhere between average and good. | | 6 |  | Chimaira
Pass Out of Existence
This is an album that is really hit-or-miss for most people. But for me, it really isn't
either. This is a debut album, and taking that into account, it's a pretty great album.
However, this is also when Chimaira was still discovering what they wanted to be. The
music is far more nu-metalish vibe to it than any of their others. This isn't necessarily
a bad thing though, because the songs are still well-written and far more interesting
than most of what one would expect from a nu-metal LP. This album basically sounds
like what it is: an introduction. Chimaira has the groove, the vocals, and the
electronic input that will evolve much further in the future. | | 5 |  | Chimaira
The Age of Hell
This record really is one for the books. Not necessarily because of the music, although
it is really enjoyable, but because of the motivation of the band who put it together.
With Andols and Spicuzza backing out abruptly, it was up to Mark, Rob, and Matt to
write, produce, and perform a whole new album while figuring out what they were
going to do about the composition of the band. The final product is really nice, and
there isn't much I can say to dog it. "Time is Running Out", while rather simplistic, is
undeniably catchy. There are also really heavy songs like "Year of the Snake" and
"Trigger Finger" that prove the band still has that aggressive edge. Overall, this is an
album well worth your time. Definitely a good thing for metal fans. | | 4 |  | Chimaira
The Infection
Without a doubt, this is Chimaira's most experimental release. The ambience it
creates, along with the somewhat new and unusual production approach for the band,
gave this record and identity and helped it stand out from the rest. I wouldn't say it's
as heavy as Resurrection or Impossibility, but at the same time, I don't feel like that
matters in this instance. Because I think the band pulled off this interesting transition
pretty well. The electronic aspect of the band was always there, with Spicuzza behind
the keys, but this album really hones in on his ability to support the songs. The drums
are also great, and Andols again shows he knows what metal should sound like.
Regardless of the somewhat unprecedented shift in sound, it's still heavy, and I really
liked this album. It was the first Chimaira cd I ever bought, and I was instantly

Chimaira
The fastest album they ever made! Any thrash fan would appreciate. "Save
Ourselves" is without a doubt one of Chimaira's best songs, with a solo that'll surely
knock your socks off! There are also eerie tracks like "Lazarus" that bring this album
to new experimental heights, all while maintaining the gut-pummeling sound we had

The Impossibility of Reason
Full of extremely memorable tracks, especially the closing instrumental. A stellar
achievement in groove metal that really gets the blood pumping. Truly an album

Resurrection
Their heaviest album by far. Andols behind the kit really brought that raw brutality
that I don't think can quite be matched by any other album in their catalogue. Mark
brought a ton of anger and emotion with his best vocal deliveries, and along with Rob
and Matt writing some killer riffs, this album is absolutely fantastic from start to
finish. This is one that, most certainly, will pound you into oblivion! | |
