How Radiohead Became My Favorite Band

Just a cracked polystyrene man.
1Radiohead
Kid A

Well, let's see. A couple years ago I started getting into better music. I had listened to
Radiohead singles before, but never really gave an entire album a run through. Here is where
Kid A came into place. It was winter and I had to drive about an hour away for some charity
thing I was doing at the time. I decided, hey why not, let?s see if this is good or not. Man, was
I blown away. It felt like a whole different world opened up. The minute ?Everything In Its
Right Place? ended I was like HOLY SHIT, this is amazing. After the event, I just HAD to listen
to it on the way back as well.

In Rainbows

After a few months of enjoying Kid A, my friend who was into Radiohead told me to go listen
to In Rainbows, her favorite. Alright, I said, sounds good. Alone in my room I decide to blast
In Rainbows. Man, was it way more upbeat than Kid A. I loved it. FUCK, THIS BAND IS
AMAZING I thought. They produce such an amazing atmosphere. However, after a couple
months of listening, I realized I gravitated way more toward Kid A.
3Radiohead
The Bends

Now it had been a year and I?ve played the shit out of both of the above albums. I decide to
check out Radiohead?s older albums. I skip Pablo Honey because I hear nobody likes it. The
Bends it was. Holy fuck, was it different, but I instantly fell in love. Every morning on my way
to school I would listen to it. Every song was amazing I thought.
4Radiohead
OK Computer

It snowed a ton and it was time to shovel the driveway. I decide I would listen to OK
Computer to see what that was all about. The only track I knew was Karma Police. I liked
Paranoid Android and all the different parts. However, I couldn?t grasp the album. I didn?t like
it. It felt too challenging to listen to. I could barely make out what Thom was singing about
most of the time. The instruments created a weird and eerie sound that just didn?t click with
me at the time. Afterwards, I put off listening to this album for a while and continued with the
others. Months had passed and I started feeling really lonely. Separated from everybody. I
gave this another listen. Fell in love. Hard. Every song was beautiful. There were sounds that I
hadn?t even noticed the first time. Thom?s voice was magic here and the lyrics actually stuck
out to me. Quickly it became one of my favorite albums ever? Which tends to happen with
albums that challenge me at first listen.
5Radiohead
The King of Limbs

A little while later, KOL was released. It was my senior year of high school. Lotus Flower I
thought was awesome with all the dancing and whatnot. KOL was pretty good I thought. A bit
too jumbled with electronic sounds maybe. A lot of people didn?t like it, but I did. I definitely
didn?t listen to it as much as other Radiohead albums. I would sometimes play it while working
in a warehouse and get my little groove on.

Concert

It was summer and Radiohead were coming to my city on the KOL tour. Of course I would be
going. They were fucking amazing. Everything I ever wanted. The crowd all seemed to be into
it and the band did two encores. The last song they played was Paranoid Android and I was in
heaven.
7Radiohead
Hail To the Thief

The one thing that I was annoyed about during the concert was that I didn?t know like 2-3
songs that they played. Why didn?t I listen to their other two albums that came out in between
Kid A and In Rainbows? No idea. But a couple of days after the concert, I did. HTTT was
awesome. It seemed like a mix of Kid A and Rainbows. There were some amazing songs on
there like Where I End and You Begin. I really liked it. Didn?t play it all of the time though.
8Radiohead
Amnesiac

This one I didn?t like as much at first. It was so odd. The mixture of sounds was a bit overbearing I
thought. I put off listening to it again for a long time. Definitely grew on me. Today I hold it in
the same place as HTTT.
9Radiohead
Pablo Honey

I listened to this once. It?s aight I guess. Some good songs. Sometimes I forget it even exists
because of how amazing everything post it has been. Until I joined this site and RYM, I didn't realize how many people loved them as much as I
did.
