| 10 Most Influential Bands
the 10 bands that made music what it is today | 1 | The Beatles
The beatles influenced the music industry itself, and caused alot of bands from europe to come to the United States | 2 | Jimi Hendrix
Without Jimi, there would be no distortion guitar, or long solos with the wammy bar. | 3 | Elvis
It's Elvis. | 4 | Venom
The band that sololy created the Black metal genre and it's subgenres. Venom released the album "black metal" which influenced such bands as Slayer to play fast, and Slayer influenced the speed metal, and death metal genre. | 5 | Melvins
Very experamental, influenced Nirvana and Tool to ever be bands, and there are so many people that have been influenced just by them. | 6 | Black Sabbath
First true heavy metal band, influenced almost anyone in Hard Rock music from 1970 - present. | 7 | Led Zeppelin
Has been said many times to be the greatest rock band in history | 8 | Johnny Cash
Might not have influenced anyone musically, but lyrically. He always wore black and probably influenced alot of people to wear black as an everyday thing. | 9 | The Saints
One of the first influential punk bands, and launched the punk genre. | 10 | While Kool Herc & the Herculoids
First Hip Hop band ever to gain major fame | |

05.21.08 | i find this list is kind of dumb. and the descriptions were poorly written. but who really cares about descriptions? | username345
05.21.08 | Needs King Crimson. | lionslicer9999
05.21.08 | Yea discriptions are so lame. | ASberg
05.21.08 | Venom named a genre and but they had no big influence on black metal as we know it. Thrash is more fitting. | Big Baby Jesus
05.21.08 | Replace Zeppelin with Floyd, and you have a pretty noyce list | slep
05.21.08 | Way to over-hype the Saints. | Ouch
05.21.08 | Elvis is totally overrated. Fantastic list otherwise. | foreverendeared
05.21.08 | ^ doesn't make them less influential | Mendigo
05.22.08 | list is pretty accurate. however, the descriptions for something like this should have been better worked out.
I would have included Kraftwerk (or Silver Apples, if you want) for the electronic genre.
and King Crimson, the band that is said to have played Progressive Metal before there even was Metal (how I love that phrase ^^)
oh, and Pink Floyd should also be here of course, the band that has heavily influenced rock music over a longer time span than any other (12 years actually, from 1967's Piper to 1979's The Wall, the more or less were the 70s) | Fjolnir
08.23.08 | Hendrix didn't invent distortion. Apart from that not a bad list, although could do with some Floyd. |
