To me, these two songs kinda go hand in hand, and despite many people telling me that "In the Absence of Truth" is Isis' weakest album, this one-two combo tells me these people are brick-eared fucks. Yeah, so I'm including a whole album rather than just a song, but seriously, everything about California is mind-boggling - the twists and turns, the emotions, the way every single piece of instrumentation and vocalization sounds like it was put there for a reason, and that airy production that seems to capture the feeling of heat haze and sea breezes within the music itself. | | 13 | | Bon Jovi
Dry County
Of all the bands who I'd expect to be able to pull off a 10minute stormer like this, Bon Jovi would be about the last - their forte is short, sweet, catchy pop-rock numbers. But this song is just HUGE. The melodies (especially the piano parts) are beautiful, that little descending riff leading into the wailing solo, and again, the sheer catchiness of it. Fact is, it doesn't seem like 10 minutes have passed when you've listened to it. A fucking beautiful song. | | 14 | | Rocket from the Crypt
