Essential Bass Albums

*Deep Purple-Machine Head-Roger Glover is underratedr*Motorhead-Ace of Spades-Lemmy is on a league of his own rCan you guys recommend me modern bands with good bass players? I feel like bass players are rgetting lazier, but maybe I just don't know too many modern bands as I love "Dad Rock".
1Rush
Hemispheres

The entire album might take you 1-3 weeks to master. It's a pretty difficult
album,Geddy and his crew were pretty much on their prime during this album
2Rush
Moving Pictures

This should be a guide to all bass players on how to play melodically while keeping a
good low end.I won't add more Rush albums, because imo (I know all of the classic
era rush bass lines),these 2 are the hardest.
3Primus
Frizzle Fry

Les Claypool is on a league of his own. This album was the hardest for me to learn
on bass, and it's the only one by Primus I'll ever manage to play b/c Les just kept on
getting better and better
4The Beatles
Abbey Road

It's McCartney.
5 The Beatles
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

It's McCartney,he will never disappoint on bass
6Descendents
Milo Goes to College

Who said punk bass had to be simple? Tony Lombardo just fucking shreds on this
album,he drives this album 100%
7Ramones
Ramones

Many beginners should be given this album, because it's a perfect learning tool.It
teaches you how to play roots, locking with a drummer, and most importantly, that
you don't have a be virtuoso in order to sound good.
8The Smiths
The Queen Is Dead

How to use bass for atmosphere
9Black Sabbath
Master of Reality

Geezer shows us how to play the fucking low end 100%.
10Black Sabbath
Paranoid

Geezer perfected his style during this album.Listen to Fairies wear Boots and you'll
see how he keeps everything together while Iommi shreds
11Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II

The Lemon Song.I don't need to say anymore.John Paul Jones is underrated
12The Who
Live At Leeds

John doesn't shine in the early studio recordings,he shines through his live
performances as he gets more room to improvise and add his fills.Love the overdrive
13New Order
Low-Life

This is pretty much bass being played as a guitar, but it's in a good way! Peter
Hook's tone is so unique and he manages to keep the groove together while
sounding melodic.
14Joy Division
Unknown Pleasures

Peter drives the entire album, mostly every song starts off with a bass line.
15Michael Jackson
Off The Wall

Funky stuff
16Sly and the Family Stone
Stand!

Larry Graham is a genius.
17Muse
Origin of Symmetry

Who said modern bass players suck?
18 Elvis Costello
This Year's Model

Wow
19Yes
Close to the Edge

Talk about tone,Chris Squire fucking honks
20 Metallica
Kill 'Em All

Cliff's a bit overrated,but Anesthesia just fucking shreds.Sucks that he didn't get
another opportunity to shine
21Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Funky.Flea doesn't disappoint
22Red Hot Chili Peppers
One Hot Minute

Flea's prime.Listen to Coffee Shop.
23Queen
The Platinum Collection

John Deacon is underrated
24 The Police
Outlandos d'Amour

Sting is a bit overrated, but he is solid.
25Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine

Pretty solid playing.Nothing woooow, but the songs are fun to learn
26Misfits
Static Age

Easy, fun songs that anybody can learn.
27Duran Duran
Rio

Sure, this was kind of a boy band, but John Taylor fucking shreds
28Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden

Steve Harris is a fucking badass.
29Iron Maiden
Powerslave

Steve's prime
30Jaco Pastorius
Jaco Pastorius

As badass of a player he is,Jaco sucks at composing songs imo.I like his work with
the Weather Report better, but Donna Lee is on this, which is why immediately, this is
Jaco's best BASS work
