Most Appropriate Album Covers

they just fit
1Agalloch
The Mantle

The Mantle is one of few albums I like to reserve just for winter. The songs seem to
just fit better with a white landscape and grey skies, much like those on the front
cover. And check out that elk/caribou. That's totally BM.
2Asobi Seksu
Citrus

Upside down Yuki Chikudate displayed in bright colours alongside a cat pretty much
embodies this record. It's dreamy, it's fun, it's vivid, and it's awesome. One of my
favourite new-gaze albums and I think the cover goes with the music more than
other AS albums.
3Bjork
Debut

Like all Bjork albums, the centerpiece of the cover is the woman herself. But here,
she doesn't appear in strange Asian garb or the dreaded swan dress, instead giving
a closeup in some sort of Alafoss sweater. Bjork seems young, naive and charming, - much like her music from this album.
4Boris
Flood

What else would belong on the front of an album so massive? To me it perfectly
personifies the sound of this immense album.
5Cocteau Twins
Garlands

Cocteau Twins sound eerie and immature on this album. Fraser is more apt to
warble and shout rather than sing, and Guthrie sticks to distortion more often than
not. The cover displays a ghost of some sort clutching it's head - extremely
accurate.
6Codeine
Barely Real

A nice picture of Belvedere that leaves you wondering if it is, in fact, real at all.
Maybe the cover doesn't fit with the music, but matches the title indisputably.
7Death
Human

Hello, bio textbook diagram from hell.
8Dinosaur jr.
You're Living All Over Me

Sludgy, scary, somehow unsettling. The guitar tone and J's off-key vocals couldn't
get a better representation than the agonized head on the front.
9Giles Corey
Giles Corey

Creepy music that uses heavy reverb and pained vocals. Great cover to display the
feelings of doubt and mystery from Dan Barrett (don't ask why).
10Iron Maiden
Powerslave

80s cheese, great riffs, and a metal monument. The awesome Eddie appearing in
Egypt fits in with the music as well as the aesthetic of Iron Maiden themselves. The
best Maiden cover, hands down.
11Kyuss
Welcome To Sky Valley

Driving music for desert highways.
12Melvins
Houdini

Melvins have always been a cartoony, kind of goofy bunch with something seriously
wrong when it comes to their sludgy music. Houdini is simply the best Melvins
cover, because it doesn't match up with the music at all. And that seems so
Melvins to me.
13My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

The lone, fuzzed out Jazzmaster-Jaguar was the driving force behind the album and
rightfully sits as the albums cover. Classic (unlike the MS Paint cover for MBV).
14Neurosis
Through Silver In Blood

One of the most crushing and immense albums gets a mysterious and fantastic
album cover. I could look at this one for days and get lost in it, much like the music
itself. Truly an awesome album and the art is probably the best Neurosis have ever
used during their long career.
15Sunn O))) and Boris
Altar

Makes sense.
