| The Mars Volta Wannabe Bands Ranked
It was more than 10 years ago when an awesome band created a perfect mixture of Jazz, rrNoiserock, psychedelic rock and some other genres. Now the so called "prog" scene is full of rbands who wish they were TMV. There are just too many of these bands so I ranked some of rthe most popular ones. | 1 | | The Fall Of Troy Phantom on the Horizon
These guys decided to add some post-hardcore and mathrock to the mix. They
sound awesome. They're clearly the best band on the list. | 2 | | Closure in Moscow Pink Lemonade
This band isn't as creative (and nowhere near as good) as The Fall Of Troy but
they're still worth listening to. Without a doubt, this album is their best by far(!). | 3 | | Dance Gavin Dance Happiness
Similar to 1 but unlike TFOT they mixed TMV with some MODERN post-hardcore. But
sometimes it just doesn't work. They aren't bad, it's not their fault that they aren't
as good at writing breakdowns as BMTH or TDWP. DGD's breakdowns are often just
something like XXX---XXX---XXX---XXX---XXXXXXXX or XXX-XXX- etc | 4 | | A Lot Like Birds No Place
ALLB is somewhere between TFOT and DGD. No Place is a great album. The only
reason why I can't get into them is the singer. His voice often annoys me. | 5 | | Strawberry Girls French Ghetto
These guys are quite enjoyable. But they lack originality. Most bands on the list are
heavily influenced by both TMV and TFOT but they aren't DIRECT RIPOFFS. This
band - however - is. (aside from lacking vocals) | |

so wannabe bands trying to rip off a wannabe band
dam | wwba
06.26.14 | "volta is pretty much a wannabe"
not true, Volta was the first band to come up with this noisy but still technical, emotional, modern
and atmospheric sound....
..
there's another unique influential prog band with a lot of wannabes called TOOL.
However TOOL-inspired bands (such as Karnivool and Katatonia) aren't fun. They just try too hard to
create Toolish atmosphere and the final result is very forced and miserable. | Killerhit
06.26.14 | nah
volta blows and those wannabe bands
so do the tool-esque bands | wacknizzle
06.26.14 | The older Closure In Moscow material is alot better than Pink Lemonade, and doesn't sound much like TMV other than the vocals. | XingKing
06.26.14 | I hate you | Cygnatti
06.26.14 | 5 is better than any mars Volta album I've heard. | kevin234
06.26.14 | These are very broad generalizations.
The Fall of Troy's Ghost Ship Demos are the closest thing the band has to offer in terms of sounding like TMV. The rest of their catalogue is cringe-worthy post-hardcore.
DGD is comparable to TMV in almost no aspect.
Closure's Pink Lemonade holds its own against many TMV albums. It's eclectic, cryptic, technically proficient, and just as energetic.
A Lot Like Birds' No Place is big in scope and immensely layered, but a step below Pink Lemonade in both aspects.
Strawberry Girls are good for what they are: a glorified jam band. They lack a front man to put them in the conversation | XingKing
06.26.14 | Kevin, please keep your hands and feet in the ride at all times. Do not feed the animals. | kevin234
06.26.14 | oh no, not you again | climactic
06.27.14 | The Big Four Of Modern Melodic Metalcore
| kevin234
06.27.14 | wwba is a troll, right? | climactic
06.27.14 | in my opinion they are the big four of MODERN (no AILD, BFVM, Trivium, etc) MELODIC (no Converge, Botch, TDEP, etc) metalcore.
