My Top 10 Albums Of 2008 Thus Far

It's been a great year for music so far, and already 5 months in to the year, i've picked up many great cds. These are my top 10 (in order) from this year. I'm expecting shit for 8 and 9 (especially 8) but bring it on.
1Mirrorthrone
Gangrene

This has surpassed CoD, and continues to grow on me with each listen. I can find barely ny flaws in
here, and despite it being longer than CoD, It doesn't get boring once, like CoD did.
2Protest The Hero
Fortress

An obvious contender. This has grown off me slightly since the first moth I heard it, but I relistened to
it today after about a month and it's awesomeness struck me again. The tapping on this album is
fucking insane.
3 Opeth
Watershed

Yeah, it's not out yet, and I still need more time for it to really sink in, but i'm impressed so far. It's a
much easier album to listen to than most of their works, and it's nice to hear more agressive drumming
and riffing for a change. My only problem is that growling only appears in 3 of the 7 tracks =/ but it's
not that big of a deal (though Hex Omega would have been so much better with growls imo)
4Arsis
We Are The Nightmare

Arsis' managed to surpass ACoG with this one. More insane guitar work, and I love James Malone's
vocals. Shattering the Spell is orgasmic.
5In Mourning
Shrouded Divine

One of the first albums I picked up this year. Like Fortress, it grew off me slightly, but is still an
amazing release. The vocalist's growls are among the best in our present time. It is slightly repetitive,
however.
6Meshuggah
Obzen

Like most Meshuggah, it's very samey, but overall a very strong release.Dancers to a Discordant System
may be their best song yet.
7Ayreon
01011001

I actually haven't listened to this in almost 2 months. As expected, it's incredibly pretentious and tends
to drag (especially on the slower songs) but some of Arjen's finest work can be found here.
8Children of Bodom
Blooddrunk

I don't understand why every one hates this. I am a Bodom fanboy, but I personally love this album. It's
a definite step up from AYDY and doesn't get boring once imo. True, Alexi's vocals are shot, but this
probably includes their best musicianship since Follow the Reaper.
9In Flames
A Sense of Purpose

I didn't quite like this much at first, but it grew on me, and I'd say it may be their best since Clayman (or
at least on par with Come Clarity). There are some shit lyrics and Ander's vocals still kinda suck, but I
still am able to enjoy it a lot despite that.
