Album Digging - May (2nd Half)
I know it's not exactly the end of the month but I better do it now before ryou-know-what rtakes over my life. [hyperventilates] |
12 | | Jon Hopkins Insides
Really nice album - it's got a great balance of ambiance and electronica. It's one of
those albums where I just play all the way through since it's great background
music - so for that reason I don't really have a favourite track. It's just one long
pleasant experience. Although I really need to watch 'Monsters' again. |
11 | | Keane Under the Iron Sea
Pop rock has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and listening to Under the Iron Sea is
just bucketfuls of nostalgia being thrown at me. Sure it's nothing like the pretentious
concept-driven technical wank fest I usually listen to, but sometimes its nice not having
to think about the music you listen to. Not a spectacular album, but the nostalgia is nice.
Favourite track - Atlantic |
10 | | Crippled Black Phoenix I, Vigilante
Listening to this album spurns the memories of seeing CBP at Damnation Festival last
year - it was such a great show, and playing half of I, Vigiliante was a real treat. I
missed their UK tour just this month since I've been juggling a shit ton of shit this
month, so I'm pretty piss mad about that. Favourite track - Troublemaker |
9 | | Oceansize Music for Nurses
I was disinterested at this EP at first since I thought it would just be based around 'Music For A
Nurse'. Luckily it's all original songs, and what damn good songs they are. It's en-par with
Frames, it's just a shame that it's so short. Favourite track - Dead Dogs An' All Sorts |
8 | | Oceansize Frames
If you've been keeping up with my bi-monthly lists, you'll know why I don't need to
explain this one. I've neglected it the past few months though, it was nice to listen
to it again. Favourite track (apart from all of them) - Savant |
7 | | Casualties of Cool Casualties of Cool
I received my signed double CD edition in the post yesterday (squee) - and the second disc is
a very interesting listen. It's very ambient in comparison and not distracting at all, hell, I
listened to all of CoC whilst chatting to my sister into the early hours of the morning last night
and wasn't phased by any part of it. It's a very good album, but definitely not the best from
this year. Favourite track - Moon |
6 | | The Mars Volta Octahedron
Although it's one of their more 'accessible' albums, Octahedron is still very strong as a Mars
Volta album. Sure it's rather tame, but it still has amazing elements like Cedric's voice.
Looking through this list I've realized I've been listening to fairly safe music so far - nothing
that'll get the common man running for the hills. Oh well, I could always put on Bedlam...
Favourite track - With Twilight As My Guide |
5 | | The Ocean Precambrian
HYPEHYPEHYPE - Booked tickets to see these guys on the UK leg of their tour. I saw them
at Damnation along with CBP and they were amazing live - although I've only listened to
Pelagic before, Precambrian is just astounding! Favourite track - Neoarchaean (dat intro) |
4 | | Bjork Debut
I stole a load of Bjork albums off my old man just to see what the fuss was about.
Man, she's good - like, really good. Her vocals are just amazing, from the high-pitch
wailing to the almost death-growls; I love the electronic elements fused with
orchestral stuff as well, and the bass is amazing in a couple of songs. Although with
Bjork there's a lot of songs about emotions and love and all that crap, and as I am
a heartless bastard I do not care much for them. Favourite track - Play Dead (I
know its a bonus track but shhhh) |
3 | | The Mars Volta Noctourniquet
Like Octahedron, it a fairly safe album by TMV. I guess I've been in a very
electronic mood this half-month with all the Bjork and this I've been listening to.
Favourite track - Noctourniquet |
2 | | Bjork Homogenic
Bjorks production is -amazing-, I have come to that conclusion. Basically this album is
everything Debut was great at, but less annoying and a bit more sinister which is nice.
Favourite track - Hunter |
1 | | Bjork Vespertine
I don't know enough about Bjork to be able to BS descriptions about 3 of her albums. If you're sat
there wondering 'but JJKeys, what happened to Anubis' 2 albums?', I say to you that I don't want
to listen to 'Hitchhiking to Byzantium' in the mindset where I'm just comparing it to the rest of
Anubis' work on a first listen. But still, the hype cannot be contained. Favourite track - Frosti
(weird choice, right? I absolutely love it, though) |
