| Album Digging - May (1st Half)
Relatively short list - you'll know why soon enough | | 7 | | The Joy Formidable A Balloon Called Moaning
I forgot about these guys for a long while - I saw them back in 2012 when they supported Muse on their The 2nd Law tour. I
didn't think much of them, but I decided to check them out again. This is their first EP, and definitely their best piece of work. If
you like MBV, you'll like this album. Favourite track - The Greatest Light is The Greatest Shade | | 6 | | Anubis A Tower of Silence
THE HYPE NEVER ENDS. In lieu of Anubis about to be releasing their latest album Hitchhiking to Byzantium, I ordered Anubis'
fully signed back catalogue yesterday. I have been listening to their past two albums for the past month in anticipation for
HtB, so just check out my last AIMD list, I don't want to repeat myself really - but I will end up writing a review of the new
album as soon as it is delivered, which fingers cross shouldn't be too long if it's coming from Australia. Anubis are also touring
Europe next year, dates are yet to be announced, but if they play the UK I will die. I will embrace this death with content.

Now this is very interesting - I got my download free yesterday and had a listen through it a couple of times. Devin
Townsend doing country sounded too good to be true, and the outcome is great. Usually country isn't my thing, but I really
liked it. Some of the tracks are a bit forgettable IMO, but maybe the album needs to grow on me a bit. The thing I want to
critique mainly is everyone's reaction to it - it's good, don't get me wrong, but I feel that everyone praising it like some sort
of deity is mainly down to Devin doing something way out of his comfort zone and pulling it off. That's my two cents anyway.
Favourite track - Moon | | 4 | | Crippled Black Phoenix White Light Generator
I wrote a review on this album, so naturally I had to listen to it a couple of times before writing it up. I'm sick to death of talking
about it though, so just go check my review if you want to know what I think. Favourite track - We Remember You | | 3 | | David Maxim Micic Bilo 2.0
Had a listen to this the other day, and all I can say is this - ahem - Holy Jesus H Shitting Christ. I love the idea behind the
operatic wailing, but it doesn't really work, other than that this album is fantastic! It's original, the guitar tones are great - I
almost died near the end of Along For A Ride - dat saxophone solo, dat guitar/keyboard chords (dat staccato), dat guitar solo,
dat bass. It would be at the top spot if I only found it a little sooner. Favourite track - Along For A Ride | | 2 | | Phideaux Snowtorch
Although I don't care much for the other two 'filler' tracks, Snowtorch Pt 1 and 2 are incredible and is very hard to become tired
of. Does anyone have any idea what's happening about the new album 'Infernal'? It was supposed to be released last year but
I'm not so sure what's happened to it. Favourite track - Snowtorch | | 1 | | Dream The Electric Sleep Heretics
I have not been able to stop listening to this album - every song is stand-alone brilliant, and the vocalist is just amazing. It's
free to download on Bandcamp, but its a crime to take such a great album for free - easily my favourite album from this year,
unless Anubis have anything to say about that. Favourite track - Elizabeth | |
