Albums I Like By Bands I Don't Like

Pretty self explanatory.
1U2
The Joshua Tree

U2 is a love or hate band. I personally loathe them not only because Bono is a
pretentious douchebag, but because of their brand of generic, stadium-ready rock
music they have been putting out since they became mega-stars.
And this is the reason they became mega-stars. And rightfully so. I already hated
U2 when I aproached this record and I was blown away with the first half. "Where
the Streets Have No Name" is one of the greatest songs ever. Even though the
second half decays in quality, The Joshua Tree is still an excellent record and, to
me, the only good thing this band has done.
2Arctic Monkeys
Whatever People Say I Am...

I loved the Arctic Monkeys when this came out. This was an honest, catchy,
ballsy, no-frills indie rock record that blew the rest of the NME-sponsored british
corporate "indie rock" scene out of the water. After that, they went downhill.
You might say "just because they're not what they used to be" is not fair, but
that's actually the problem. Their sudden 180° turn in Humbug that was followed by
two records, drawing influences from (supposedly) psychedelic, desert rock and
heavy metal, sounded really, really fake. Remember that Tom Waits song "I
Don't Want to Grow Up"? Well, this is the exact opposite. This "mature" style from
the Monkeys just feels rushed and forced to me, and the songs really reflect that.
No honesty, no clever lyrics, no soul. Just bullshit.
3Slayer
Reign in Blood

I like some Motorhead and Black Sabbath records and I dig some Dio, Pantera and old
school Metallica songs, but I'm not a big metal fan, so this is kind of unfair. I like this
record, mostly because I grew up with metalhead friends that banged this album on the
regular. I still like it and listen to it on my own, though. I tried to listen to other Slayer
records, but yeah. Not my cup of tea. Maybe I listened to the wrong ones, I don't
know.
4Catch 22
Keasbey Nights

When the singer and songwriter of the band leaves after a record it's really hard to
get back on track. Still that's no excuse to keep profiting from a record where you
had no imput whatsoever, like the boys from Catch 22 did for years after mastermind
Tomas Kalnoky left. Thankfully, he formed Streetlight Manifesto in 2002, so nobody
really cared about Catch 22 after Streetlight's debut album.
5Muse
Origin of Symmetry

Muse's only good record. Showbiz, Absolution and Black Holes are just generic radio-
ready modern rock records, and I don't have a problem with that. I don't care about
them. But since 2009's The Resistance, Muse has been a bullshit parade backed by
awful pseudo-experimental pop music and everyone's buying. Of course, it was
designed to do so. And Matt Bellamy wants to be the new Bono or something. Hell,
they've toured together. Fuck this band.
Origin of Symmetry is pretty solid, though.
