This is a list of my favourite Big Star bands. Big star is one of the most underrated bands in history. There songwriting was almost on the level of Lennon/McCartney, but due to poor distribution by their label there albums were never able to catch on. | | 1 | Big Star
The Ballad Of El Goodo
Hey they stole my name *shifty eyes* this is a classic song, with melodic guitars, and huge chorus. "There ain't no one, goin' to turn me round." | | 2 | Thirteen
A beautiful ballad sung from the point of a thirteen year-old falling in love. "Won't you let me walk you home from school, won't you let me meet at you at the pool..." | | 3 | You Get What You Deserve
Great lead guitar parts, and another killer chorus. "Your gonna get a place in the scene, all god's orphans get a face in the dream." | | 4 | Life Is White
A song that sounds like it influenced R.E.M., pounding rhythms, beautiful melody. "Your life is white, and I don't think I like, you hanging around." | | 5 | Back Of A Car
This song wastes no time, and kicks off right with the chorus, which is immediatley memorable. "Sitting in the back of a car, music surrounds, can't tell a thing, thinking bout what to say." | |

07.31.06 | Once again the comments fail to show up. Oh well. I recommend people to check out Big Star if they are a fan of The Beatles, R.E.M., The Velvet Underground, or The Counting Crows. There music is pure pop-rock heaven, but there a 70's band so you know it's the good kind. There guitar work is really excellent, and the melodies are amost always extremley catchy.
And they were the original creators (but not performers) of That 70's Show theme song. | francesfarmer
