Early 2014
I haven't been keeping up with new releases as compared to last year but rthese are what I've heard so far. List is sort of ranked and a lot of these rrequire to some additional listens to cement my true feelings on them r(looking at you Swans). |
| 1 | | The War on Drugs Lost in the Dream
Easy favorite so far. It's just too perfect. |
| 2 | | Trophy Scars Holy Vacants
Only listened to this a few times but it's pretty obvious there's something special here. Further
listenings may reveal it to be a classic. |
| 3 | | Manchester Orchestra Cope
Much more aggressive than anything they've done before. There's no "I Can Feel a Hot One" to be found
here. I haven't been blown away with this as compared to their earlier works but it's still a kick ass release. |
| 4 | | Insomnium Shadows of the Dying Sun
I'm sucker for melo-death and these guys pull it off so well. Nothing new here but still a solid
album. |
| 5 | | Thee Silver Mount Zion Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything
In a time where there's not too much new going on in post-rock, these guys still
manage to create unique sounding stuff. |
| 6 | | The Menzingers Rented World
I can already tell this will be getting a lot of spins this summer. |
| 7 | | Conor Oberst Upside Down Mountain
Just heard this last night but I really loved it. Has he potential to move up. |
| 8 | | Buckethead Monument Valley
Melo stuff from Buckethead. One of the better ones from the Pike series. |
| 9 | | Swans To Be Kind
I've never tried harder to like a band than I have with Swans. I'm almost to the point where it's
going to "click" I think. Hope it's worth all the time I've put into it. |
| 10 | | Crosses Crosses
Most of this can be found on earlier EP's but it's still beautiful stuff. Chino's voice=sex. |
| 11 | | Have a Nice Life The Unnatural World
Another one of those I need to listen to more to get a more clear opinion on it. I remember
enjoying it but I can't recall a single thing about it. |
| 12 | | Alcest Shelter
Alcest went full shoegaze with pretty good results. Sort of drags by the end though. |
| 13 | | 311 Stereolithic
Not much to say here, pretty standard 311. I'll still listen to this a ton over the summer
though. |
| 14 | | Behemoth The Satanist
Only listened to this a couple times. Another one of those where I liked it, but can't
recall it that well. |
| 15 | | Buckethead Rainy Days
More melo Buckethead. |
| 16 | | Tycho Awake
Not bad by any means, just not as good as his previous albums. |
| 17 | | Cynic Kindly Bent to Free Us
I actually think musically this album is incredible from a technical point of view, but nothing
really sticks out to keep you coming back. |
| 18 | | Moonlit Sailor We Come From Exploding Stars
I fell asleep while listening the first time, then felt myself falling asleep on the
second try. Don't think I'm destined to finish this. |
| 19 | | John Frusciante Enclosure
Pretty disappointing actually. |
| 20 | | Bong Stoner Rock
Heavy drone that I haven't felt compelled to listen to again. |
