4 Reasons I Like Vinyl

Self explanatory. Why do you like vinyl?
1Lymbyc Systym
Symbolyst

The Ritual - Being forced to got through the whole process of playing a record elevates my experience greatly. You have to pick up this large artifact, examine it, bring it to your turntable, gently remove the record from it's sleeve, being careful not to make contact with the grooves that hold that precious music. Then place the record on the platter, and touch needle to wax, and after a few seconds of white noise, you can enjoy your sound of choice (not to mention flipping the record for side B, possibly C or D!). It's so fun to go through this every time I want to listen to one of my albums... It makes listening to music feel even more important than it already is.

Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II

Artwork - I love album art, and having it blown up to a square foot makes it feel more like art. I certainly have nothing against CD art, but the added size gives it more significance, with more possibilities for detail, texture, and more adventurous inner art.

The Weak and The Wounded

Local Business - Buying vinyl from your local record store is much like going for a locally brewed beer, instead of a Bud Light, or a mom and pop restaurant instead of Chipotle. By making the effort of rummaging through hundreds of albums, and finally coming across one you must have, and making the purchase, you're helping the little guy keep afloat against a sea of behemoth mega-stores who peddle shit for the general populace. Support Small Business.

Sound - I don't want pretend to think that vinyl sounds better than any other format (CD or mp3), or if it does, I'm not at the point where there's a major difference to me. The sound that makes vinyl so endearing to me is the constant sound provided by the needle going along the surface of the record. Hearing that between songs gives a sort of continuity to the listening experience, that is lost on CDs or digital formats. Even the imperfections are pleasant (when the don't fucking skip), they make the music seem more human, and since we all have imperfections, it's something that we can subconsciously connect with.
