Top 10 Opeth Songs

IMO. What? Didn't see an Opeth list today so I thought I better do rrone rbefore someone complains...
1Bleak

The first song that actually got me into the death metal side of Opeth and still my
favourite. The whole song is flawless from beginning to end but the part which really
stuns me is the acoustic section. Lots of finger picking goodness going on with a really
sweet blues solo followed by Mikael's most beautiful vocal performance to date. Oh
and Steven Wilson.
2The Moor

Although the ending is kind of abrupt, the song is nevertheless pretty much perfect
throughout. The acoustic strum which layers above the main riff is brilliant along with the
hummed section which I can't help but join in whenever I listen to this song.
3Demon Of The Fall

Is there another song so universally liked by anyone into Opeth? Mikael's layered
growls at the start sound so perfectly demonic and it really doesn't get any better for
his growls.
4The Lotus Eater

What a fun song. Bit weird upon first listen but grew on me pretty quickly and the quick
exchange between clean and unclean vocals wouldn't sound like it would work too well on
paper but it works out pretty neatly here. Extremely solid guitar work in the back as
always with a great solo at around the 3 and a half minute mark.
5April Ethereal

THAT INTRO. Lots of great vocal work going on in the song and maintains its
momentum from the start to finish and not much else can be said to be honest.
6Blackwater Park

Sadly, I feel like the quiet part lasts just a bit too long but other than that, it's at this
number for a reason. Good riffs throughout and I've made it a habit now that
whenever i listen to let out a random "UHH!" when it gets to the 2 minute mark. In
other cases, a well timed cough is the appropriate option when on the train.
7Ghost Of Perdition

The other 'in-your-face' song at the get go on this list. What can I say that hasn't
already been said? Not much besides there's a lot going on here and has my
favourite Opeth solo, which is perfectly placed. Section between 6.30-8.20 is brutal,
beautiful and emotional and ranks as one of the best Opeth moments ever.
8Heir Apparent

Brutal and dirty... for Opeth. Solo didn't do too much for me but the acoustic parts
were interesting and were nicely in between the two heaviest sections of the song.
9When

Probably my favourite start to any Opeth song. The very 'in-your-face' scream after the
short acoustic guitar blows my mind each time. Has a really good solo in the middle
section, which is one of the best parts on the album but the song sadly loses some of its
steam towards the end. Shame, would have been higher up if it maintained its
consistency throughout such as April Ethereal.
10The Leper Affinity

Not really too much to say about this, except for the fact it is good THROUGHOUT
and just never gets boring. With that being said, it was sadly difficult to pick out a
particular moment that made it shine brighter than some of the Opeth songs.
