| Recent And Future Purchases
1-12 are albums I've recently bought, 13-18 are albums which I've either ordered but haven't got yet, or ones I plan to get soon... | 1 | | The Gutter Twins Saturnalia
Heard very little from either Lanegan or Dulli before, but after hearing a few streaming tracks, I was impressed enough to buy. Very dark, moody album, but very enjoyable. | 2 | | Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
A completely random impulse buy, and my first experience of any of Cave's music, aside from a couple of covers I've heard. Took a couple of listens to sink in, it's not to my usual tastes, and the religious references are a little annoying at times, but overall I like it (first disc a little better than the second). | 3 | | Isis Oceanic
I heard "Weight" back when this first came out in 2002, but my tastes were much more narrow and mostly commercial back then. Six years later I've finally got the album, and I can't believe I put it off for so long! | 4 | | Rosetta Wake/Lift
Got into these guys through recommendations for bands similar to Isis and Tool, and got "The Galilean Satellites" first. I feel this is an improvement over the latter, and an absolutely MASSIVE sounding album. | 5 | | Tool Undertow
Speaking of Tool, this was one of the two I've been missing (the other being Opiate), and although it's not their best, I'd forgotten how great a song "Sober" was. Great album. | 6 | | Crowpath Son of Sulphur
The most chaotic grind I've ever heard... Not even sure what made me want to buy this in the first place, but I'm glad I did, although listens will be most frequent when I'm in a bad mood, I think... | 7 | | Dream Theater Awake
Avoided these guys for ages because of the whole "great musicians - shit songwriters" view that many people have. Apparently these people are sponge-eared cunts. Only a coupla albums from completing the collection now... | 8 | | Planes Mistaken for Stars We Ride to Fight! The First Four Years
Heard this playing in my local record shop and immediately bought it. Like Hot Water Music, but even gruffer. Me likey very much. | 9 | | Jets to Brazil Four Cornered Night
The second to last Schwarzenbach-related album I needed to get (I'm gonna hang fire until "Unfun" is reissued before getting that). Blake's amazing lyricism and some varied instrumentalism make this an interesting and emotionally heavy listen. | 10 | | Therapy? Nurse
Finally got all of their albums, and I'm not entirely sure why I saved this one for last, as it's clearly one of the best, even if the production leaves a bit to be desired. Nice industrial vibe to it, and catchy as fuck. | 11 | | Bad Religion Generator
Another case of the almost-completed-the-collection syndrome. Just need their first album now. Not my favourite BR album, but a nice cross between their older, speedier sound, and the folky/bluesy elements they'd explore on "Recipe for Hate." | 12 | | In Flames A Sense of Purpose
Their most melodic, original, and straight up best album in almost a decade, and one which has caused me to rethink the 5/5 rating I gave "Come Clarity." | 13 | | Torche Torche
Heard a few tracks off the forthcoming "Meanderthal" album, and figured I'd catch up on what I've been missing out on before the newie comes out. | 14 | | Torche In Return
Ditto. | 15 | | The Replacements Let It Be
Since hearing Ginger (of the Wildhearts) cover "Answering Machine," it's really struck a chord with me (missing my lady atm), and is fast becoming a favourite of mine. This has been reissued recently, so I figured now would be as good a time as any to get it. | 16 | | The Fully Down Don't Get Lost in a Movement
Heard them described as a much poppier A Wilhelm Scream... The songs I heard sort of supported this claim (although they're not a patch on AWS), but since the album was going for a coupla quid on Amazon, I figured I'd pick it up on the offchance it's a gud'un. | 17 | | Less Than Jake Goodbye Blue & White
The only LTJ release I never got around to getting before now, so I figured I'd buy it now it's been re-released. And it's taking fucking ages to arrive... | 18 | | Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
As I mentioned, "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" impressed me, and having heard the title track of this, I figured I'd give it a go too. | |

04.19.08 | for one thing, that's a guy. in facepaint. well, half a guy's face, mirrored down the middle. and fucked with on a photo editor.
for another thing, that guy is me. and as a heterosexual male, i'm afraid i'll have to deny your sordid little fantasy... | Chewie
04.19.08 | lol, i just got pwned. | jrowa001
04.19.08 | props for getting into Nick Cave. he is amazing. you should really get Murder Ballads, Let Love In, or The Firstborn is Dead. you kind of started with his more "upbeat" albums. the ones i have listed are my top 3 | spoon_of_grimbo
04.19.08 | thanks for the tip! i was thinking that TFID might be my next nick cave purchase, as i've heard sikth's cover of "tupelo" (amazing song), and i'd like to hear the original. does the whole album have the same sort of mood as tupelo? | jrowa001
04.19.08 | the mood is definitely the same throughout. most of his earlier albums were like that. the songs might not be as "epic" as tupelo but they have a dark moody sound to them. imo his version of Tupelo is better than sikTH's but both are awesome | Bfhurricane
04.19.08 | 7 is great | PayneTiger777
