04.07.14 | well the two genres really don't have anything in common besides their "post" in their name... it's not really important what "post" means (basically: it means using many of the same "rock" or "hardcore" instruments to achieve really different ends), and the scenes evolved completely independently from one another, very different sounds, etc.

post-rock is a really diverse genre (and it doesn't really seem to be what you're looking for based on the things you have listed) so I'll keep it short, but here's some essential bands from different areas of the subgenre that would be worth checking for an overview:
