Picking Minstrel over CttE has nothing to do with me being obsessed, Minstrel is the better album (imo). CttE's title track is like the best thing ever but the other two songs don't live up to it.

ArsMoriendi 04.03.14	@SCREAM!: Rush is so meh though. Geddy's voice might be powerful, but god is it just pure headache material. Peart's drumming isn't enough for me to care about them, as great as it may be. I love Close to the Edge, but I always loved Fragile more.

Onirium 04.03.14	The Yes Album Thick As a Brick Close to the Edge and btw, Rush are nowhere near Yes, Floyd or King Crimson, they don't have the classic English sound. They're good, but different. And believe me I am not racist as I'm a Canadian myself.

ArsMoriendi 04.03.14	@Frippertronics: Well I guess that's because Alex Lifeson's guitar lines are just as forgettable as his name is. Rush = great bass, amazing drums, forgettable but decent guitar, and headache causing ugly vocals. Yes just flat out wins.
JaySpiral 04.03.14	It sucks that Rush is gone, but at least they lost to a worthy opponent. TSG however is so freakin awesome, and Larks' Tongues is full of too much boring, random, avant garde, ambient type garbage to be better than TSG.

The only 70s prog bands I'm really into are Yes, Zappa's prog stuff, Pink Floyd, and I've heard 1 Camel album. I've failed to enjoy King Crimson and Rush. Sooo I'm not sure I'm the best person for a prog debate.

JaySpiral 04.03.14	@Ars listen to Trespass through Wind and Wuthering, and maybe Duke. @Onirium but what about Power and Glory or Acquiring the Taste. Free Hand and Octopus make sense.
Onirium 04.03.14	@JaySpiral: Yeah, Gentle Giant have like two standouts and lots of equally awesome albums, yet In a Glass House is my favorite of these. Also, Three Friends is pretty good too.
JaySpiral 04.03.14	Oh wow I didn't know how popular In A Glass House was on here until now. In my experience In A Glass House isn't as renowned as Acquiring the Taste or Ocopus or Power and Glory.
ArsMoriendi 04.03.14	I'm overwhelmed guys... I mean after what I've heard from Aqualung, I'm not sure I even really want to give Jethro Tull my time. As for Genesis, maybe I'll try Lamb Lies Down on Broadway soon and see where I go from there.

Also Hot Rats gives the wrong impression about his discography like completely, which is why so many users on here who start with Hot Rats have trouble tolerating his other albums. You Are What You Is isn't a good start either, but it's still certainly my favorite.

ArsMoriendi 04.03.14	Absolutely Free is a pretty good starting point... but I'd say Joe's Garage or Apostophe(') for is the best to begin the journey, especially since they have an inviting commercial sound.

ArsMoriendi 04.03.14	But his humorous stuff is also musically talented. "Fifty-Fifty" has my favorite Zappa guitar solo ever in it and its hilarious. Also the violin and organ in that song are brilliant.

JamieTwort 04.05.14	I would have to go for Animals in that situation. Picking between Animals and Heavy Horses however would be practically impossible for me (although the former isn't strictly a prog album so I guess that comparrison would be unlikely to happen).

JamieTwort 04.05.14	Moths is my favourite Tull song and also my favourite song of all time. Love the title track but it doesn't come close to the beauty of Moths for me.
TheSpaceMan 04.05.14	I don't remember anything else off HH sticking out besides Weathercock, but I haven't listened to Tull in ages (grew up around a lot of Tull fans). Always thought Aqualung and TaaB were more consistent but maybe I should really try to get into all of them
JamieTwort 04.05.14	Heavy Horses is one of the hardest growers ever. Took me many listens before I appreciated it as the masterpiece that is. That album has some of the best song writing I've ever heard.
