Kalopsia 04.02.14	this post on imdb sums it up pretty well: "Sorry but I guess i'm not a "true fan," despite the fact that i've seen every episode 5-6 times, but no I'm not a true fan. Everyone who says "well the signs were there, it was planned from beginning says creators blah blah blah," have to realize that the ending would have only worked if the series ended very very very early, like before Robin and Barney dated. Shortly after they showed Robin as the bride Carter Bays and Craig thomas said they had decided on that shortly after they broke up the first time. Instead of putting more into the Ted and Robin relationship, which honestly only worked in season two, they invested THREE YEARS into Barney and Robin, made the fans care about that, all the while really amping up the mother talk and the creators continued to do interviews and say the show was all about Ted becoming "the man he needed to be for the mother," and even said "no robin is not the end of Ted's journey, was never meant to be," so what we have here is an ending that contradicts the entire series. I understand that they shot the footage early on, that does not mean, nor does that obligate them to use the footage, once they realized that the characters were rapidly evolving and that the show was not going to end in the first few seasons, that ending should have been changed to match the characters. What did we get instead? An ending that not only invalidated the entire series but in 40 minutes reverted every single character back to factory settings. Barney became a player again, sleeping with anything that moved, gone was the character that loved people, was a good guy in relationships and had fought hard to get Robin back, the meeting scene between Barney and the mother was therefore invalidated because in the end he just went back to his scams. Robin, who over the course of the wedding weekend was shown to be someone who could settle down, despite having doubts and being someone who truly loved barney reverted back to the workaholic who abandoned her friends. Ted, who was on this supposed "journey," learned nothing, the same relationship that he obsessed over before became his obsessions, despite the fact that the creators themselves in the final episode pointed out HOW LITTLE ROBIN WAS AROUND, so he was chasing the mystical dream. "
Kalopsia 04.02.14	"Let's talk a bit about the "footage," that made me laugh so hard. This footage only made sense up to season three, where Ted really was still going after Robin. There is no way that the kids could "see how much he loved robin," and make that decision based on anything that Ted told them past 2008. Ted went back to Robin when he was at his lowest after they dated. Let's see, they became bang buddies (so romantic,) because they couldn't live together. After the Drunk train, when ted was admittely at his lowest point he has "feelings," again for Robin. Finally at the wedding, which once again was shortly after "time travelers," where he was at his lowest point. It's the fault of the creators for using the footage to shoehorn in the ending they wanted, despite the fact that it contradicted everything that they had built for nine years. In the end people want to say "only true fans get it, they saw the signs!" Apparently everyone was just going on what the creators themselves created, they took the series and moved it in one direction Robin and barney together (built it for 3 years,) and Ted and the Mother together (built it for nine years, entire premise of the show,) only to in 40 minutes stick their middle fingers up say "beep you, we don't care about what we did, we have this cool footage from a few years back and we are making ted and robin happen, we don't give a beep what you think and we already have your cash so beep off!""
Gyromania 04.02.14	i fucking LOVE watching you people lose your shit over the ending let's face it, the story ted told was his and robin's. i wasn't crazy about how quickly it ended though. plus i will argue barney and robin should have been together. all of that character development and growing up for what? to have barney regress to his old self. what's the underlying message here? that the more things change, the more they stay the same

OZZGabriel 04.02.14	The whole season was fucked up.They had a lot of fillers instead of focusing on the 'mother'.I actually started to care about her and also about the Barney-Robin thing (you know, that great relationship where they got married and in the same episode they got divorced).To be honest I wasn't expecting much but it would've been ok it he just met the mother and BAM 'The End'.That should've been it. At this point I didn't even care for the show that much but this pissed me off more than it should've.

In addition to the fact that Barney and his escapades have probably been the major driver of the show. (maybe not in terms of story and plot/how it was intended but how a lot of the audience received it)

I wouldn't mind if they were all driving back from the wedding in the same car and just fucking drove off a cliff and exploded if they put the proper amount of time in it. PIECE OF SHIT!

tempest-- 04.03.14	if season 9 was all the big moments shown in the final episode, and Ted and the mother had more time together for the audience to really see them being perfect for each other (we had flashforwards and stuff throughout the season like that that I really enjoyed) and then at the end she died it could have been really nice

Deviant. 04.05.14	Had to watch this show due to the gf, and yeah the ending was terrible. I respect the decision to stick to your guns, and close with the ending that was planned from the beginning, but it seemed like they only ever had the beginning and the end. Every year they were renewed the show for another season they had to find things for their characters to do, and as a result, these characters outgrew their original archetypes and/or their story arcs I get the whole "getting back with Robin" thing, but it's impossible to make that work when your entire structure is so limited to the most obvious of endgames. Ignore the title of the show and its premise, each season was bookended with talk of the mother - revelations that she would be in the class on Ted's first day etc; they couldn't be more obvious with their intentions. Breaking up Robin and Barney wasn't even that big of a deal, but doing it after a whole fucking season detailing their weekend is the worst idea that anyone could have ever come up with. I get that a 9th season was only approved in the 11th hour, but how did they think that stretching 22 episodes out over 48 hours (or whatever) and then 2 episodes dedicating to 15 (or so) years of history, history that contains the biggest moments in this shows mythology, was a good idea? Also, calling it now: Barney will be the father in How I Meet Your Dad

Deviant. 04.05.14	It's really the only logical choice there could be for not bothering to show the kid's mother at all, even though the whole point of Barney's last 20 mins were simply a rehash of his earlier persona of being a womanizer, thus making all his conquests disposable and faceless. Imagine the conclusion of the new show though: "you were the result of a one night stand and the result of a perfect month"
Deviant. 04.05.14	Because they were offered one more season, and then realized that they only had X, Y and Z left to show and went "how do we stretch that out into 24 episodes?" The decision to only go for broke in the last episode was beyond a joke though

I'd imagine it's something they had already filmed during the making of S9 and they just chose not to use it in favour of the ending they did decide on.
