Top 10 Albums

Remake of RYM list, top 10 favorite albums and reasons why
1American Football
American Football

Simply put, no other album makes me feel the way this one does, or as strongly as
this one does. Holds so many memories of listening to this over and over again, and
it helped sparked my interest in the emo genre as well. The ultimate "feels" album.
2Boards of Canada
Music Has The Right To Children

Speaking of memories, this album is basically nostalgia put into music form. Listening
to this actually conjures up memories of childhood with its warm synth tones and
light, floaty atmosphere.
3Madvillain
Madvillainy

Perhaps the most consistent album I've ever heard, Madvillainy is 22 tracks of lyrical
and musical genius. From MF DOOM's witty and humorous lyrical wizardry to Madlib's
jazzy, soulful production, Madvillainy is the product of a match made in heaven.
4My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

More of a singular musical piece than a collection of tracks, Loveless seems violently
abrasive at first, but slowly reveals itself as an oddly relaxing album. Like floating
atop a vast sea of feedback and noise.
5Slint
Spiderland

Spiderland is about as understated as music gets, defying any and all conventions of
rock music without seemingly even trying. Cold, monochrome, unfeeling; the music
of aliens.
6Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas...

Slint's polar opposite on the post-rock spectrum, Godspeed's masterpiece is one of
the most epic, intense, powerful, cinematic, and emotionally-varied albums I've ever
heard. (F#A# Infinity comes in at a very close second, but I decided to leave it out
of the list in the interest of having one artist per entry)
7Nick Drake
Pink Moon

Those sleepless nights spent by the late, great, then-unknown folkie Nick Drake in
producing this record certainly paid off. Emotionally stark and poignantly beautiful,
Pink Moon's musically stripped-down approach ultimately ends up being the key to its
strength.
8Radiohead
OK Computer

I owe it all to this record, basically this is the one album that really got me into
music. OK Computer finds a unique style in-between Radiohead's previous
alternative rock sound and their subsequent full-on electronic approach. Brimming
with variety, this album is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with an underlying sense
of fear and paranoia.
9DJ Shadow
Endtroducing.....

Before this album I had very little interest in hip-hop, but this completely blew my
mind, as well as blowing any preconceived notions of hip-hop music out of the water.
Constructed completely from sampled music, Endtroducing stands as a strong artistic
statement that you can create new art from old art.
10Refused
The Shape Of Punk To Come

With this record, Refused essentially take the genre of post-hardcore and stretch it
wide open, allowing elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and even Middle-Eastern
music to find their way into these songs. The perfect mix of punk spirit and artistic
ambition.
