| Favorite Classic Van Halen
I'd take Dave over Sammy any day (even in 2014), but I'm not posting this rlist to incite the rold-hat debate. A ranking of the Dave records, from VHI to rADKOT. | 1 | | Van Halen Fair Warning
Aside from ADKOT, this is the hardest-sounding CVH record. The band reached the
apex of their songcrafting skills, from the vocals in "Mean Street" to the instruments
in "Hear About it Later." Not a weak track on the album (as with all Classic VH), but
what puts FW at #1 is its song cohesion, its theme, that is just not as well-done in
the other 6. | 2 | | Van Halen Van Halen
It's hard to make a Van Halen album list without placing their legendary debut at or
near the top. Nothing new can really be said about VHI--"Runnin' With the Devil,"
"Eruption," "Jamie's Cryin'," and deep cuts like "Atomic Punk" drenched the 1978
music scene with Eddie's trademark "brown sound," and the album still stands today
as a monument in rock music... | 3 | | Van Halen Van Halen II
...which brings us to the anticipated follow-up, VHII. Still maintaining its
predecessor's party-band swagger, VHII puts a lighter spin on the band's definitive
sound. The guitar lines are poppier, the vocals higher, and one can't help but wiggle
one's toes in the sand and turn up the volume. | 4 | | Van Halen 1984 | 5 | | Van Halen Women and Children First | 6 | | Van Halen A Different Kind of Truth | 7 | | Van Halen Diver Down | |
