VermTheImpaler 02.07.14	Lol, I'm sure you haven't heard power metal lloyd ( most of the power metal detractors have just heard through the fire and flames on guitar hero and they think that this is all the power metal that exists) . Symphony X, kamelot, Angra, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Helloween and Savatage have good instrumentation in all departaments, and the lyrics and vocals are solid ( like it or not, most of them are well crafted ). I understand that there are bad bands in the genre like freedom call, cellador and more but most power metal has its good things, songwriting is cool and despite the cliches most of the lyrics are well constructed, besides power metal is intense and thrilling; also it has variety ( the melodic side is very different from the more progressive or symphonic bands ).

VermTheImpaler 02.07.14	Awful music lol, those are brave words for a fan of blink 182( a band that is overrated as hell, with inmature lyrics and who doesn't have a lot of skill). The bands I listed have a terrific songrwriting, their instrumentation is excellent ( most of the power metal guitar players, drummers, and keyboard players are among of the best metal musicians in recent times), they have a well crafted concept and a good amount of diversity, besides the lyrics of kamelot or theocracy are well constructed ( not like the lyrics of blink 182, I mean that band is ok when you want to do crazy and stupid shit but they are far from being a 4,5 or a 4 ). Besides bands like angra or ayreon have a consistent discography, not like you precious blink 182 who released a lot of shit in the early 90's and who ruin their comeback with a piece of crap like neighborhoods. By the way, mark and tom sometimes are boring and they are average as hell, ayreon has some of the best voices ever and vocalists like roy khan or matt barlow destroys your little blink 182 shit. Dude, at least if you are going to bash a genre give some reasons, I mean, people hate certain stuff because they judge the book for its cover but if you are going to make a general statement would be nice if you have certain support

VermTheImpaler 02.07.14	that's not even the main criticism of power metal Most of the criticism I've heard of power metal is for 3 things: Being too happy, the aesthetic which is consider by many as something nerd and that the bands sound too similar ( thing that is false considering the gap that exists between groups like ayreon and sonata arctica or iced earth and versailles, of course if you have only heard clones of stratovarius and hammerfal like altaria, freedom call and more you will not have the same opinion ). The ironic fact is that most of the people who complain about the sonic diversity of power metal are same ones that criticize when a band like amorphis or enslaved make change in their sound. Most of the critics are comical as hell and the 85% of lads who bash power metal haven't heard anything beyond dragonforce.

They are more like a greatest hits band and they lead to the uprising of the awful pop punk bands of the mid 00's which were a crime against rock music. Green Day at least had diversity and Dookie is certainly more solid, besides the voice of billy in dookie is less annoying than the voice of mark and tom ( which also did a very bad job in +44 and in angels and airwaves )

The ironic fact is that they claim that PM is so bad in musical and lyrical terms when they defend stuff that is mostly made of 3 power chords and which has lyrics that could be written by a high school loser with bad grades

Contraty to the belief of most of the power metal detractors PM bands are different for each other; first of all a band like avantasia has a different sound than a band like kamelot which has a darker sound, also a band like symphony x is far different from stuff like helloween and a group like versailles presents big differences with bands like demons and wizards or with a band like ayreon. Power metal has certain amount of subgenres and besides of sharing certain common elements they are different from each other, some bands need more diversity but groups like kamelot, blind guardian, symphony x and x japan have lot of diversity ( example the black halo is not equal to poetry for the poisoned and the oddysey is different from the iconoclast). Now lets talk about the lyrical themes, not all the bands in power metal have the same lyrical themes, sonata arctica and stratovarius deals with a great variety of histories in which you can see a diverse amount of topics in an interesting way ( positive stuff, political issues, enviromental problems, parental control, hate, love, dissapointment, fantasy, dreams, science fiction, redemption and more); besides when most the PM approach of legends, myths and histories they usually use a well crafted lyrcism ( which is not for everybody ), tracks like march of mephisto, beethoven's nightmare, sleeping sun and reign of terror have very good lyrics. Most of them are better constructed and far, far, far less chessy than the ones composed by some core bands or overrated pop punk groups like memphis may fire or blink 182. Arjen Luccansen, Tuomas Holopainen, Martin Walkyer and more have compossed very remarkable stuff, which is well constructed and is pure poetry. Still, I don't hope that you can understand that

Black metal with Satan and forests; Death metal with violence, death, anti-christian lyrics; Rap with street life, being oh-so-cool; I could go on. All of these have plenty of good albums and exceptions in terms of lyrical themes, and so does power metal. Also, people seem to be bothered more about lyrics about magicians than those about beheadings.

I found more cheesy a lot of black metal, see immortal, they have talent but their cheessy as fuck ( those videos are even worse than the videos of rhapsody of fire ), the 90's black metal is usually comical, those bands trying to look so evil with corpse paint are a joke and production is far worse than any production of any power metal album, blackgaze, symphonic black metal and progressive black metal rulz hard but because their sound and lyrics faced a notorious improvemnte. Respect to the the death metal part. Bands like six feet under, cattle decapitation , cephalic carnage, murder construct and more have really cheesy topics and their lyrical work is bad ,also, most of their songs sound the same, groups like helloween or versailles have more variety, death metal has a lot of quality stuff but also has a really visible chessy side. And nothing against rap ( In fact I adore a big part of the genre) but stuff like wiz khalifa and gucci mane have a chessier aesthetic, no talent and the lyrics are laughable as hell. I Prefer fantasy stuff than some of the other chesse related to the thug life, satan and gore that some people here adores an think that is legit, lol.
