| My Top 10 Sonata Arctica Songs!
With the release of their latest album, 'Pariah's Child', just around the corner, I figured now would be as good a time as any to make this list. It's probably not the most conventional of 'favourite/best SA songs' lists, but whatever, it's just my personal opinion. ^^ | | 1 | Sonata Arctica My Selene
Ugh, the love I feel for this song is just insaaane! It's very rare that I fall so instantly for a song like I did with this one, but there's just something about it. The lyrics are so romantically cheesy and the music just matches up perfectly, making this not only my favourite SA song, but also one of my favourite songs ever. *sigh* It's just such a shame I'll almost certainly never hear this live... | | 2 | Victoria's Secret
In my younger years I found the 'Winterheart's Guild' album difficult to listen to, but even since the beginning I have loved this song. It's a powerful song from start to finish, with wonderful harmonies and beautiful keys in the verse. And it's a great song live! Ever since I saw their performance of it in the 'For The Sake Of Revenge' DVD I knew I had to see it live and when I did was not disappointed one bit! | | 3 | The End Of This Chapter
This was the first SA song I ever liked. It was the opening piano that got me. It's another song that's so full of emotion and depth and just builds and builds, keeping you hooked all the way through. I also love the harmonies all throughout the song; I have a lot of fond memories of singing along with this song, exchanging harmonies with my dad and then later on my little brother. This song really has a special place in my heart. | | 4 | Tallulah
I have a lot to thank this song for. If it wasn't for this song, my dad might never have gotten into SA, meaning that, subsequently, I might never have gotten into them. Again, it's a song with a wonderful piano part that I have vowed to learn at song point but still have yet to, as well as having beautiful harmonies. It's just such a sweet song and gets me all emotional every time I listen to it. | | 5 | Draw Me
Ahh, this song makes me tear upon every listen. It's such an underrated song and is often overlooked, despite being sooo beautiful! The lyrics are so moving, the opening acoustic guitar makes me choke up instantly every time and the emotion is just so... there are no words, I just love this song. | | 6 | Misplaced
Strong opening, strong middle, strong end, 'nuff said. I decided to give SA a real chance when this album came out and have not regretted it since. This song is kind of symbolic of the real beginning of my love for the band, so I couldn't exclude it from the list. Also, again, harmonies. | | 7 | Last Drop Falls
This was one of the songs that took a long time for me to really appreciate but still managed to stick with me throughout the years, patiently waiting for me to realise it's awesomeness. Almost 10 years after first hearing it, I am now at last ready to admit how amazing it is. Tony's vocals in this song really manage to capture the raw emotion behind the lyrics, making it a truly magical listening experience. Every time I listen to this song I can really feel it and can't help but want to belt it out myself! | | 8 | The Power Of One
Back when I was first becoming forcefully acquainted with this album (thank you, dad) I was drawn to this song, much to my confusion. It's a weird song to start liking suddenly when previously all you knew was Steps and Spice Girls and stuff like that, so I was kind of against liking it, even though I already kind of did. Years later however, I am not at all ashamed to liking this song and even consider it one of my favourites. It's just a really interesting song to listen to and I dunno, I guess I like the complexity of the song in comparison to SA's other stuff and how it builds. Kind of almost prog-like? | | 9 | My Land
I feel kind of ashamed to having my entry from 'Ecliptica' so low down, but with so many strong contenders, I guess it can't be helped. It was a hard toss-up between this and FullMoon, but I think that, despite how awesome the latter is, especially live, this song wins for me. I would explain what about the song makes it worthy of this list, but honestly, I'm still trying to work that out myself. It's just an awesome song overall. | | 10 | Ain't Your Fairytale
I cannot stress this enough, but HARMONIES. I just love them and this song is like a gold mine full of them! Also, had to add a wolf song to the list; it's like a crime not to have one (*ehem* i'm looking at you, 'stones grow her name' album...). | |
