Gojira Vs Meshuggah

Why these two bands are constantly compared confuses me greatly, I s'pose its because of their paired emphasis on a 'heavy' sound. Whilst I do think these two bands are unique I feel that their 'progressive' tag is largely exaggerated. Both bands pretty much stick to what they now and have definitely crafted a solid niche' for themselves respectively.rMusically comparing the two is quite a difficult task as Meshuggah are obviously the more polarising of the two. With their off kilter time signatures and Jens Kidmans robotic vocals I had an extremely difficult time enjoying their music at first. On the other hand, Gojira's heavy emphasis on strange and idiosyncratic pinch harmonics and sweeps has always sat well with me, they have been a band I have always enjoyed. So, if I'm going to start 'comparing' them then surely the question remains: 'Who is the 'better' band'? for lack of a better phrase. Although Gojira have been one of my most listened bands in the past few months my heart still lies Meshuggah. Sure, they stick to what they know nowadays but that's the point, they don't have to change to keep me interested. Two great and distinctive bands for sure, lets hope they tour together someday...that shit would be MASSIVE.
