Top 20 Metal Guitar Tones

Might not be objective at all but I really like the guitar tones on these ralbums.
1Exodus
The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A

The tone here is so nasty and trebly but it sounds awesome. Shame the album is
pree average but dayum son
2Carcass
Heartwork

Probably one of the most weirdly polished guitar tones in metal. Tight and with a
good mix of frequencies due to the use of a typical hi-gain amp and a practice amp
to fill in the highs. Sounds killer.
3Cryptopsy
None So Vile

Simply sounds heavy as hell, the bass fills in just the right frequencies to
compliment the sound here and dayum it's crushing
4Testament
The Formation Of Damnation

Yeah, typical Sneap job, but the sound here is just razor sharp and heavy
simultaneously, trems sound godly
5Feared
Vinter

Ola spends all his time looking for as good a tone as possible and here it's pretty
amazing; tight and heavy.
6Illdisposed
Four Depressive Seasons

The pick attack is monstrous and the sound has so much weight dayum
7Bloodbath
Nightmares Made Flesh

Somehow they managed to even make the guitar sound guttural
8Cannibal Corpse
The Wretched Spawn

The guitar tone is weird here but ridiculously heavy despite being pretty trebly. The
trems sound great too.
9Jeff Loomis
Plains Of Oblivion

Jeff's tone normally sucks but here he turned down the gain a bit so it actually has
some legit pick attack and it's now great.
10Pestilence
Consuming Impulse

Way too trebly and yet that makes it sound great for the album. Thrashy as hell.
11Rotten Sound
Exit

Grindy.
12Kataklysm
Prevail

Band sucks but their tones is tight as hell and them trems
13Blood Red Throne
Altered Genesis

Another one of those album with a weirdly guttural tone to even the guitars. Not
100% tight, but the saturation sounds really good here for some reason.
14Deeds Of Flesh
Gradually Melted

Weirdly I dig the excessively scooped tone here, for no real reason. Sue me bro.
15Destruction
Thrash Anthems

Whatever your complaint about how Release From Agony originally sounded, the
title track sounds amazing here. So chunky.
16Meshuggah
ObZen

The best 8 string tone. Got much more life than on Koloss but just as tight.
17Anthrax
Spreading The Disease

Chunkier than most old school thrash tone. Just sounds great for whatever reason.
18Cannibal Corpse
Gore Obsessed

Probably just as good as the Wretched Spawn's tone, the album's just worse. Pit Of
Zombies sounds great though.
19Dismember
Like An Everflowing Stream

Old school swede-death tone at it's best.
20Savatage
The Hall Of The Mountain King

Lead tone is godly, rhythm tone is manly.
