Best Country Albums Of 2013
1Jason Isbell
Southeastern

Beautiful songwriting with emotion and authenticity oozing from every word. This hearkens back to Townes Van Zandt, in my
opinion. For fans of Patterson Hood.
Favorite song: "Yvette"
2Sturgill Simpson
High Top Mountain

A great traditional country album. For fans of Waylon Jennings.
Favorite song: "Hero"
3Lindi Ortega
Tin Star

With a voice sounding like a mix of Harris and Parton this girl sounds awfully good, but that isn`t it, the music matches. Female
artists have put out some great country albums this years--Rose, Monroe, and Musgraves to name a few, but Ortega`s is the
best. For fans of Monroe.
Favorite song: "Hard As This"
4Eric Strickland and the B-Sides
I`m Bad for You

70`s era country with anything from bar rousers to ballads. For fans of Waylon Jennings and Dale Watson.
Favorite songs: "Crude Oil Blues" and "Angel Like You"
5Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band
Bless This Mess

Good musicianship, good songwriting, enough variation from song to song, a solid cover of Hank William`s "Kaw-liga", and two
great instrumental tracks make this a helluva album. For fans of Hank III and .357 String Band.
Favorite tracks: "Long Way Home" and "Lead Me Astray"
6Alan Jackson
The Bluegrass Album

Excellent songwriting coupled with bluegrass instrumentation.
Favorite song: "Ain't Got Trouble Now"
7Ashley Monroe
Like a Rose

Another great traditional country album. This lady has a fitting voice for the music she plays and has a bright future ahead of
her. For fans of Maggie Rose or Pistol Annies.
Favorite song: "Weed Instead of Roses"
8Gary Allan
Set You Free

This album doesn`t conform to any one genre with it ranging from country to rock, and there are a few excellent songs on here
like, "It Ain't the Whiskey" and "One More Time". For fans of a raspy and unpolished voice.
9Holly Williams
The Highway

Granddaughter of Hank Williams and daughter of Junior, this girl is carving out a nice country legacy of her own. She seems to
have inherited their songwriting ability as well. For fans of Ashley Monroe.
Favorite song: "Drinkin'"
10 The White Buffalo
Shadows, Greys & Evil Ways

"The whole point of songwriting is taking people on an emotional journey, like a mini-movie," says Smith. This is exactly what
makes his music engaging, that and his voice. For fans of Jakob Dylan.
Favorite song: "The Whistler"
