BMDrummer 12.15.13	@Kill Yeah, I owned Death Magnetic because my dad got it for me for my birthday. It was the only Metallica album I owned back then and I listened to it once and I subconsciously hated it. I traded it in though for RTL and AJFA. Great decision. I recorded my band's first album with this in mind. I made it quieter than it should've been though. The Vapor Trails remix is alright also. I do have a copy of the GH version of Death Magnetic. What an improvement. James's voice kind of sucks on the album though because he sings instead of yells his lyrics.

Realm 12.15.13	itd be cool if people stopped calling it the "loudness war" and learned a thing or two about how the process actually works. some albums get wrecked in mastering, others it's a stylistic choice to have little dynamics but that doesnt automatically mean that what youre hearing is or isnt "clean"

KILL 12.15.13	honestly i didnt know shit about this stuff a few years back, i used to think the remastered version of rust in peace was better than the original cos it was more HEVY then i upgraded from 2watt pc speakers and realised what a mistake i made
Realm 12.15.13	heard a story that the president of motown would get a tape from the studio when they did a final mix and if it wasn't bumpin in his car he would tell the engineers to mix it again.
Realm 12.15.13	one last important thing to remember is that musicians have more control over their music and the way it is recorded/mixed/mastered blah blah instead of the producer calling every shot. basically, music becoming less dynamic is a partial result of musicians having more influence on sound. the engineer's job is not to fix, it's to reproduce sound accurately.

BMDrummer 12.16.13	@Realm Thanks for the constructive criticism and I have read into the whole process of making an album sound like it does in the case of Death Magnetic. I understand the bands have a lot of control over the sound/mix of their music, the problem is that they either don't listen to their fans, lost their hearing (Metallica?), or the creative control is left to the engineer/producer. Hopefully more people will realize this phenomenon though. It isn't as bad as it was in the early 2000s, but Rick Rubin is still making records so that sucks.
