Ryan Gosling

I would be infinitely more comfortable fawning over Ryan Gosling if I was a woman. But damn it he's one of the best actors with such a consistent track record. I mean after The Notebook, he's more than proven that he's seriously versatile and sincere in pretty much every film he's in. Here are my 5 favorites.
1Beach House
Bloom

Drive - One of the most perfect movies I've ever seen. The acting is stellar from Gosling, Bryan Cranston, Carey Mulligan, and Albert Brooks as well. The story is so meticulously crafted, with no filler to speak of throughout the film, making the slow pace of the film very economical. Every scene was there for a specific reason. The driver had a great internal struggle to prove to himself that he was a good person, and the way the movie wraps up is fully satisfying. I will definitely be watching this one over and over.
2Metallica
Ride The Lightning

The Place Beyond The Pines - More superb acting, this time we get to see it from Bradley Cooper and Dane DeHann, and Eva Mendes is surprisingly solid. More internal struggle between what's right and wrong, but without the signature direction by Nicolas Refn. Even though it was a dividing factor for most, I thought the way the story was told in 3 parts was refreshing, and varied enough to justify the length it took to finish the chronicle, and the impact that one man's actions can have is beautifully portrayed here.
3Wild Nothing
Empty Estate

Lars and the Real Girl - Gosling's most unique performance in my eyes. While he normally plays a quiet character, the ones seen in Drive and TPBTP have an aggressive intensity that is at times quite chilling. Lars' quiet nature is one of innocence and purity. I think it's amazing that for how few words Ryan Gosling seems to say in these first 3 films, you can become so invested and tied to the people he portrays, truly masterful. And this movie is really heartwarming in the way it showcases human acceptance and kindness prevailing over social norms. A real feel good story.
4Smashing Pumpkins
Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

Crazy, Stupid, Love - This one's not so much about Gosling, even though it's nice to see him in a more sarcastic, comical role. The chemistry between he and Carell is unique, and a pleasure to watch. This is without question Gosling's most lighthearted and fun movie that I've seen.
5Agalloch
The Mantle

Blue Valentine - This one may not be the best to watch if your marriage is struggling. The way a crumbling is depicted in this one is depressing as hell, and frighteningly realistic. Not only do you get to see Gosling and Michelle Williams give great performances (and with excellent chemistry), but you see different versions of their relationship throughout the film, and each stage is obviously distinct. Both actors show diversity within the course of one movie, and although it's not pretty, the way this love story is told is in the end, very fulfilling.
